The Robert J. Tomsich Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Institute (RT-PLMI) touchesvirtually everypatient at Cleveland Clinic and thousands of patients across the world. From simple blood tests to sophisticated DNA analysis and expert biopsy interpretation, RT-PLMI serves a vital role in diagnosing, treating, and monitoring disease. With approximately 1,400 dedicated caregivers processing more than 20 million tests annually, the RT-PLMI laboratories are often cited as the largest volume hospital laboratory in the United States. RT-PLMI also provides pathology and laboratory services to external clients through our reference laboratory, Cleveland Clinic Laboratories.

As a Lab Technician II,you willbe responsible forprocessing routine and stat laboratory tests as well as performing specimen investigation procedures to resolve lab specimen issues or problems. This is a very hands-on team anda great placeto get your foot in the door. This role can not only lead to growth within the lab but also the ability to move into other roles.


A caregiver in this positionworksdays from8:30AM - 5:00PM.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Receive andaccessionlaboratory specimens into the LIS.

  • Retrieve, sort,trackand deliver specimens.

  • Perform specimen investigation procedures to resolve lab specimen issues or problems.

  • Verifyaccuratedocumentationrelativeto specimen processing.

  • Maintain patient,specimenand tracking data using the laboratory computer system,tracking andsoftware/devices.

  • Prepare specimens for analysis and accept or reject specimens.

  • Perform manual processing (centrifuge,aliquotingand routine maintenance).


Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • One year oflabexperience


Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Associate'sdegree in science(willsubstitutethe required experience)


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform specimen handling techniques and take measurements.
  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
  • Ability to move throughout the department and hospital system.
  • Handles and transports biohazardous materials and potential carcinogens.
  • Ability to differentiate color, hue, saturation, and tones.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.


Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $19.25

Maximum hourly: $29.30
