Job description

Hours: Start time- 4am-3pm (hours can change due to business needs)

Days: Monday-Friday (Days will change, weekend flexibility)

Location: 2635 E Magnolia St. and 2101 W. Roosevelt St, Phoenix, AZ (Rotating, 1 week at each site, once training is complete)

DESCRIPTION:

The Metallurgical Lab Tech is a hands-on position which works under the supervision of a metallurgical/material science lab engineer to effectively deliver high quality metallurgical analysis and is responsible for the day-to-day lab operation and will learn and deploy lab protocols to support coating production needs.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Perform visual documentation of various incoming samples
  • Perform and acquire accurate physical measurements using micrometer, calipers, and stereo microscopes
  • Operate band saws/abrasive/precision saws to section samples, mounting press and vacuum impregnation of samples required for metallography
  • Prepare metallurgical sample for microscopic evaluation as per specifications/protocols. Samples include thermal spray coated, bare aluminum, anodized aluminum, and other monolithic materials
  • Ability to learn and perform material hardness testing as required by the engineer
  • Ability to learn and possess knowledge of various ASTM and ISO requirements and safe operating procedures related to various lab metallurgical operations
  • Maintaining consumables for various metallurgical evaluation needs
  • Per engineering protocols, deliver appropriate micrographic/metallographic results to the engineers/team leads
  • Comply with applicable environmental, health and safety laws and regulations, Company policy and accepted safe work practices

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Trade school or an associate degree in Technology is preferred
  • Possess mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to pay close attention to details of various processes
  • Ability to perform daily tasks with little or no supervision
  • Experience working with laboratory test equipment including metallographic evaluations, failure analysis, electrical testing, and non-destructive evaluation is beneficial
  • Experience with plasma spray equipment and ABB robots is beneficial
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 lbs.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Computer proficiency (Excel, Word)
