Job description

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY:  Perform instrument maintenance and assist in the preparation of samples to be tested.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform daily, weekly and monthly maintenance on automated and manual equipment.
  • Accurately prepare samples for testing using various types of laboratory equipment.
  • Perform test processing under the direction and supervision of a medical technologist that may include:
    • Loading of samples into racks
    • Placing racks of samples onto instruments
    • Pipetting of samples
    • Performing CLIA Waived testing
    • Entering QC results and patient results
  • Assist in monitoring inventory.
  • Assist in the washing of laboratory glassware.
  • Perform the unpacking and restocking of laboratory supplies and reagents.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and solving problems.
  • Comply with CRL and departmental SOP's.
  • Comply with OSHA and other safety manual procedures.
  • Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with co-workers and other laboratory departments.
  • Perform the duties of Lab Aide as necessary due to workload or staffing considerations.
  • Keep work area neat and clean.
  • Maintain and protect the confidentiality of all CRL, CRL subsidiaries, legal entities and client information.
  • Be able to comply with all applicable federal, state, and local safety and health regulations that would apply to this job.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:  Associate's degree in clinical laboratory, chemical, biological science or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE: 6 months of pertinent laboratory expreince or an Associates degree in a relevant scientific field.

The following physical attributes are required for this position:

  • Regularly moving around the laboratory
  • Close vision requirements due to computer work
  • Repetitive use of hands, fingers, wrists, and elbows for operating a computer and telephone
  • Reaching, including above the shoulder
  • Bending or stooping
  • Pushing and pulling of large carts, trash bags, and specimen bags
  • Lifting, up to 35 pounds

EQUIPMENT:  Basic laboratory equipment and personal protective equipment; PC and communications equipment.

OTHER:  Overtime on demand.  Meet department productivity and quality standards.  Rotating weekend work is required. Specimens consist of body fluids and must be regarded as potentially infectious.
