Job description

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education – High school diploma or equivalent is required. Completion of Medical Assistant program or training received from a Vo-Tech or equivalent is preferred. Experience in lieu of educational requirement may be considered.

Experience – One (1) year specific related experience is preferred.

Licenses & Certification – Valid BLS certification required or must be obtained within 60 days of hire. CMA certification is preferred.

Knowledge & Skills –

  1. Knowledge of medical terminology used in a health care facility.

  2. Knowledge of procedures for appointing and routing patients in a health practice setting.

  3. Skills in organizing and maintaining accurate records and documentation.

  4. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

  5. Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with patients, clinic/hospital staff, and the general public.

  6. Ability to learn the requisition procedures, formats, and protocols of the Clinic.

  7. Ability to utilize a personal computer and its applications in a Windows environment.

  8. Ability to maintain a confident, professional demeanor.

JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of the position is to provide medical and administrative support to medical staff of the Muscogee Creek Nation Department of Health. Incumbent will also provide clerical, general, and technical assistance. Technical support and guidance are provided by the Clinical Director, Physician, and/or clinic Physician Assistant.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in an ambulatory healthcare facility and office setting. There is common exposure to infectious communicable disease, potentially hazardous chemicals, and biohazardous materials. Incumbent must be aware of all risks involved and be willing to take precautions as required and requested. Special attire may be required as protection against infection and radiation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work requires long periods of standing and walking in the facility. Working with patients requires recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, and positioning patients. Ability to lift in excess of 50 pounds is needed. Incumbent must be able to cope with constant changes in a stress-laden environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:

  1. Assists the medical provider or medical personnel as directed in the provision of direct patient care activities.
  2. Maintains accurate and complete records of patients of the healthcare facility.
  3. As directed, perform administrative office and clerical duties and receptionist duties, receive incoming telephone calls, and greets visitors to determine nature of call/visit and refers to appropriate personnel to handle in a courteous and professional manner.
  4. Under the direction of the Medical Staff, administers medications by various routes, i.e., oral, intramuscular, etc. from stock supply of drugs, which do not necessitate calculations or fractional doses.
  5. Under the direction of the Medical Staff, carries out required diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as vital signs, wound care, EKG’s, etc. necessary in providing adequate health care.
  6. Under the direction of the Medical Staff, makes calls to patients to discuss result management and ensures appropriate follow-up care is scheduled, i.e., repeat lab resting, referrals, etc.
  7. Maintains clinic supplies and equipment reordering as required.
  8. Immediately reports any problems with equipment/instruments in the facility to the Clinical director.
  9. Regular attendance is required.
  10. Performs other duties as required.
