Job description

Under minimal supervision, the Clinical Simulation Specialist will provide support for all facets of clinical simulation. This individual will provide technical support for all equipment used including computer software and hardware, patient simulators, task trainers, and audio-visual equipment and will perform routine maintenance when necessary. This person will function as a resource for faculty and staff training as well as student teaching. This position primarily reports to the Director of Simulation Operations.
This is not a remote position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist simulation coordinators, educators, and faculty with the planning, design, implementation, and execution of simulation and skills lab activities. Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the use and operation of diverse skills and simulation technologies, ranging from anatomic task trainers to high fidelity, full body patient simulators.
  • Provide technical expertise across simulation technologies by programming, testing, and operating simulation scenarios.
  • Train faculty, facilitators, and staff on the effective use of equipment, systems, and simulation workflows to ensure safe, consistent, and high quality implementation.
  • Collaborate closely with simulation team members to support the planning, delivery, and evaluation of simulation activities, learning experiences, and events.
  • Develop and maintain expertise across multiple simulation modalities, including procedural, immersive, distance, and emerging simulation formats, and support adoption of best practices in these areas.
  • Facilitate the preparation, setup, and takedown of simulation and skills lab events; maintain orderly and well organized closets and storage areas; and ensure inventory systems are current and accurate.
  • Perform data collection, maintenance, and reporting related to simulation and skills events, equipment and supply inventories, student evaluations, and clinical simulation documentation.
  • Provide technical support for computer based multimedia systems, including the recording, management, and distribution of audio visual files for simulation activities.
  • Install, configure, and maintain simulation equipment software and hardware, computer systems, and patient simulators.
  • Serve as a liaison with equipment manufacturers for troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of biomedical, simulation, and lab equipment, and maintain accurate repair records.
  • Evaluate new equipment and identify opportunities for technology innovation and integration into healthcare education. Maintain proficiency in existing and emerging simulation technologies by participating in technical training, professional development, and simulation conferences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field and one (1) year of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Knowledge of healthcare education, clinical simulation, or academic clinical environments is a plus. Experience with database management, data tracking, and inventory systems is desirable. Some experience with financial or budget-related processes is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of institutional (e.g., UAB) policies and procedures is beneficial. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, FERPA, and all applicable institutional policies and guidelines.
