Job Description
Summary
The Assistant Technical Director supports the daily operation and maintenance of the Roc Nation School's technical infrastructure across studios, tech-labs, classrooms, rehearsal spaces and our Kumble Theatre. Your role will serve as an integral member of the technical operations and production team, ensuring that educational, creative, and public events are supported by reliable, professional-grade technology.
Responsibilities
Recording Studio & Production Technology Support
  • Maintain and support professional recording studios and production labs.
  • Troubleshoot A/V equipment, studio monitors, microphones, software suites, and all audio hardware.
  • Configure, maintain, and support audio software workstations including Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Ableton Live, FL Studio, and associated plug-ins and software.
  • Assist with equipment calibration, signal flow, and preventative maintenance.
  • Coordinate equipment repairs, warranty service, and vendor support.

Classroom & Educational Technology
  • Provide technical support for university facilities, including technology, piano, and drum labs.
  • Ensure all instructional spaces remain operational, organized, and fully functional for academic use.
  • Assist faculty with classroom technology systems, software installations, and computer workstations.
  • Support student projects, coursework, capstone productions, recording sessions, and technical demonstrations.
  • Facilitate software deployment, updates, and license management for instructional computer labs.
  • Train students and faculty on the safe and effective operation of university technology and production equipment.

Live Sound, Theater & Event Production
  • Support live events, showcases, recitals, theatrical productions, guest lectures, and industry events.
  • Serve as technical support for productions and events held in Kumble Theatre, including evenings and weekends as required by the university's event schedule.
  • Assist with venue setup, technical rehearsals, strike, and event logistics.
  • Operate or support mixing consoles, wireless microphone systems, speaker management systems, and playback systems.
  • Assist with livestream and hybrid event production as needed.

Technical Operations
  • Maintain inventories of audio, video, lighting, and production equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections of technical systems.
  • Assist with installation of new equipment, infrastructure improvements, and technology upgrades.
  • Maintain technical documentation, equipment records, and operational procedures.
  • Respond promptly to technical issues and service requests across university instructional and performance spaces.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience supporting professional audio, AV, studio, theater, or live event environments.
  • Strong knowledge of signal flow, audio systems, and production technology.
  • Experience with digital audio workstations and professional recording equipment.
  • Experience with live sound.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting skills are important.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in higher education, conservatory, or music school environments.
  • Proficiency with Pro Tools and Avid products.
  • Familiarity with Q-SYS, Crestron, Extron, or similar AV control platforms.
  • Experience managing software licenses and computer lab environments.
