Job description

Veterinary Receptionist/Assistant

We are in search of a veterinary receptionist/assistant for our busy, one doctor small animal practice. Full -time or part-time shifts available. The candidate must possess exceptional people skills, be detailed oriented and be able to follow through. Ability to handle multiple phone lines, clients, computer proficiency, the ability to multi-task, prioritize and cope well in high stress situations is essential. We have a small staff and a team player philosophy is crucial.

Our belief is to provide our patients with lifelong excellent quality care, and support. We treat every pet as if they are our own. Client service in many forms is the responsibility of all staff members so ideal candidates interested in joining our team should love animals, be friendly, outgoing, have excellent client centered service skills. They also need to be professional, responsible, empathetic, and be computer savvy.

Currently our office hours are from 8 A.M. to 6 P.M. Monday through Friday and 8 A.M. until noon on Saturday. We are flexible with hours and schedules. Full- time position is available for generally a 4-day week and rotating Saturdays from 8am until noon are required.  Part-Time positions are also available for weekday morning and afternoon shifts and rotating Saturdays from 8am until noon are required.

The duties of our receptionists and assistants include but are not limited to:

  • Have excellent communication, time management and organizational skills
  • Answering phones, making appointments, collecting payments, discharging patients and directing questions to the appropriate staff member.
  • Ability to manage a multi-line phone system is essential.
  • Scanning, faxing, texting, and emailing correspondence
  • Recording all forms of communication in the medical records and logs
  • Assist with animal restraint during examinations and procedures
  • Fill exam rooms for the doctors and technicians
  • Help maintain and keep clean the exam rooms and hospital including cleaning/disinfecting cages, kennels and treatment areas of hospital when necessary
  • Feeding/bathing animals when needed
  • Helping clients with their pets
  • Help monitor hospitalized animals and report any changes to the veterinary team
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

·        A passion for working with animals

·        Prior experience in in veterinary reception, animal care or veterinary settings with a working knowledge of vaccines, common medications, and common conditions is preferred but not required

  • A working knowledge of veterinary terminology, hospital procedures and pet care best practices.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with attention to detail for managing multiple tasks.

·        Proficiency in animal handling techniques, dog and cat handling preferred

·        Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail

·        The ability to tactfully interact with clients in varying emotional states and situations is a must.

·        Ability to meet the physical demands of the job. Work requires lifting, carrying and restraining animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 40 lbs. but should be able to lift 40lbs on own).

  • Walk, bend, stretch, and stand or remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time in order to properly assist and/or perform tasks.

Experience:

·        Veterinary experience: Preferred however, we will train the right candidate.

Compensation:

·        Starts at 18.00 per hour, but compensation is based on years of experience, client service skills, and knowledge. Please attach a cover letter when submitting resume.
