3M is seeking a Quality Control Laboratory Technician for the Materials Resource Division (MRD) located in Cordova, IL.
The Impact You'll Make in this Role
As a Quality Control Laboratory Technician, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world.
The person hired for the position of QC Laboratory Technician will support product quality, product development, process scale-ups, or production processes by learning and performing elementary tests, measurements, and tasks for experimentation and/or production. The technician will also gain understanding and assist in the development of quality standards and test procedures in order to inspect materials, in-process, or final products to ensure 3M quality standards are met.
This position is a 12 hour shift rotating position at the Cordova plant.
Here, you will make an impact by:
  • Conducting analysis of samples with minimal supervision and report results.
  • Supporting QC lab process improvement initiatives.
  • Supporting product validations and optimizations.
  • Utilizing LIMS and other Computer Systems.
  • Documenting all test results.
  • Maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Participating in quality improvement programs.
  • Maintaining/improving testing cycle times for QC.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
  • High school diploma/GED or higher (completed and verified prior to start)
  • One (1) year of quality control technician experience in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
  • Associates/2 year Technical degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a chemical operator, laboratory technician or combination of both
  • Understanding of basic concepts of measurement systems, testing, and calibration
  • Working knowledge of the basic quality tools (checksheets, process flow diagrams, cause-and-effect, histograms, Pareto charts, scatter diagrams, run charts) and general awareness of a consistent problem solving methodology, such as the "7 Step Problem Solving Method"
  • Experience working with diverse team including external partners
  • Ability to communicate regularly and effectively on test results and observations
  • Detail oriented
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
