JOB DESCRIPTION

Northstar Aerospace, now part of Avio Aero - a GE Aerospace Company, is a leading independent manufacturer of components and assemblies to the global Aerospace industry. Our principal products include gears and transmissions, accessory gearbox assemblies, rotorcraft drive systems, and other machined and fabricated parts for helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. We also provide maintenance and repair and overhaul (MRO) on these platforms.

SUMMARY OF POSITION 

The Manufacturing Engineer (NPI) will contribute technical manufacturing and project management skills in developing manufacturing solutions for new product introduction. This individual will Engineer process planning (CAD) and machine code (CAM) to meet dimensional requirements of the end design.  This individual will be responsible for successful product realization including product validation and verification.

This position is in Northstar’s Engineering Department, and reports to the Engineering Manager. The position works with all levels of employees throughout the organization as necessary but does not directly or indirectly supervise any other employees.  

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position are listed below.  This list is not all inclusive and may be amended by Northstar, from time to time.

  • Develop Manufacturing process using 3D models to define each manufacturing sequence.
  • Conduct a design review with key stakeholders to identify potential manufacturing defects.
  • Perform PFMEA and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop in-process drawings and inspection plan to provide process control.
  • Develop CNC code with emphasis on error free output, using verification and stock analysis tools.
  • Design and develop tooling to support the Manufacturing process.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, symbols and geometric tolerances based on military and commercial specifications.
  • Provide manufacturing support to shop floor personnel.
  • Develop and maintain the production shop floor travelers.
  • Investigate and correct quality issues related to the new product. 
  • Serve as technical liaison with customer engineering and quality personnel.
  • The employee will be responsible for handling sensitive information in accordance with all applicable security standards, guidelines, and company policies.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED                             

              

Education Required: BS Degree in Mechanical engineering/ Manufacturing Engineering or related engineering discipline.

Experience Required: Minimum of 10 years of industry experience, preferable in aerospace.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED

  • Able to read blueprints and have extensive experience applying GD&T to manufacturing operations.
  • Must be extremely competent in CAD/CAM systems, specifically NX12.
  • Must have recent programming experience including milling, turning, and in-machine probing.
  • Must have recent experience machining aluminum, magnesium, and alloy steels.
  • Must have a solid understanding of metal cutting technology.
  • Must be computer competent with MS Office, Project, and ERP systems.
  • Must be familiar with specifications, and requirements for aerospace component manufacturing.
  • Knowledgeable of aerospace welding, heat treatment, machining, and special processes.
  • Abide by established policies, plans, methods, procedures, deadlines, and priorities.
  • Must be dependable, professional, flexible, have a positive attitude and a solid work history. 

The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary/commission based on the plan.
