Overview:
Job Title: Computer Support Technician
Location: Minneapolis, MN (Primary) with occasional travel to St. Paul, MN
Job Summary
The United States Attorney's Office (USAO) for the District of Minnesota is seeking a skilled and dedicated Computer Support Technician to provide crucial technical assistance for our information management needs. This role is integral to supporting the USAO's mission to prosecute and defend cases on behalf of the federal government. You will be responsible for a wide range of IT assignments, including systems and network administration, in a dynamic environment that includes desktop and laptop computers, LAN, Microsoft SQL Server, and various case management systems.
This is a full-time, 40-hour per week contract position. The initial contract term is for one year, with the potential for two additional one-year extensions.
Key Responsibilities
Under the direction of the IT Systems Manager, you will perform the following duties:
System Administration: Test, configure, install, implement, and manage networked systems for data, voice, and video transmission. Assist IT staff in the configuration, installation, and maintenance of these systems.
IT Security: Ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems and data by implementing and maintaining information systems security programs, policies, and tools.
Customer Support: Provide excellent customer service, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and training for users.
Web Maintenance: Perform routine tasks in support of the office's intranet and internet sites, such as converting content to web pages and repairing links.
Litigation Support: Assist in the planning, development, and coordination of litigation support and case management services.
Required Qualifications & Competencies
Education: Must have successfully completed post-high school education.
Specialized Experience: Must have IT-related experience (paid or unpaid) or relevant IT certifications. Experience should demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:
  • Attention to Detail: Thorough and conscientious when performing work.
  • Customer Service: Skilled in working with clients to assess needs, resolve problems, and provide quality service.
  • Problem Solving: Able to identify problems, determine the relevance of information, and use sound judgment to make recommendations.

Required Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of principles and practices for integrating and administering computer systems to optimize performance.
  • Familiarity with performance tuning tools, database management, and project management methods.
  • Knowledge of operating systems and their interoperability to install, upgrade, troubleshoot, and maintain systems effectively.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex problems to minimize service interruptions.

Security & Citizenship Requirements
  • All personnel must undergo and be granted a Minimum Background Investigation waiver prior to starting. This process can take 8 weeks or more.
  • Candidates must meet DOJ residency requirements, having lived in the U.S. for three of the last five years.
  • A signed Nondisclosure Agreement will be required.

Work Environment & Schedule
  • Work Hours: This is a 40-hour per week position, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • Overtime: Evening and weekend work may occasionally be required and will be authorized in advance.
  • Holidays: The position includes all paid federal holidays.
  • Travel: Occasional non-local travel may be required for official business or training, with prior approval. Local travel between the Minneapolis and St. Paul offices is part of the job; however, mileage costs to the primary duty station in Minneapolis are not reimbursed.

Government Furnished Support: A complete workstation will be provided, including office space, a telephone, and a computer with all necessary network and software access.
