What You'll Do

As a Surfacing Designer, you'll play a key role in transforming customer part data into high-quality tooling designs. Working closely with Program Managers, Designers, and Manufacturing teams, you'll create precision surface models that ensure mold functionality, manufacturability, and customer satisfaction.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Create and modify high-quality surface models for plastic injection molds using CAD software
• Overlay existing tooling for part revisions and complete tooling impact studies
• Develop surface data that supports efficient mold design and manufacturing
• Review customer part data and ensure designs meet customer specifications and quality standards
• Create kinematic representations to verify mold functionality and component movement
• Collaborate with Program Managers, Designers, Engineering, and Manufacturing throughout the design process
• Communicate with customers as required and prepare documentation for customer approvals
• Monitor project milestones and maintain accurate progress reports to ensure deadlines are met
• Recommend improvements to engineering processes and design standards
• Incorporate customer-specific safety and design requirements into all tooling designs
• Identify hardware or software issues that impact productivity and recommend improvements
• Participate in engineering meetings, training, and continuous improvement initiatives

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related discipline is preferred
• 5+ years of experience in tooling surfacing, mold design, or plastic injection mold engineering
• 5+ years of experience using CAD software such as Visi, Siemens NX, SolidWorks, or similar 3D modeling platforms, preferred
• Strong understanding of plastic injection mold construction and tooling concepts
• Experience working with mold components such as lifters, slides, and other moving mechanisms
• Ability to develop tooling concepts from customer part data
• Strong understanding of manufacturability and mold functionality
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality designs
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize work, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
