Summary
The purpose of the Autobody Paint Helper is to perform skilled work in preparing, refinishing and painting metal and other surfaces.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Enforce all company policies as defined in the SMEG Company Handbook
  • Interact with customers, vendors and entire service staff
  • Maintain neat and professional personal appearance at all times, wearing appropriate logo assigned company shirts
  • Measures area to be painted; determines quantity and type of paint to use for the project.
  • Identifies and orders appropriate paint colors and finishes, mixing if needed.
  • Prepares surfaces to be painted, which may include removing prior finishes through chemicals, grit blast, or other methods.
  • Masks, removes, covers, or otherwise protects hardware, trim, and other nonpainted surfaces.
  • Applies primer and finish coats to fire apparatus using lacquers and synthetic paints and enamels.
  • Understanding of productivity goals and review for areas in need of improvement
  • Participate in morning meetings with service staff to plan the day
  • Maintain accurate, timely and legible company designed reports and paperwork
  • Complies with chemical and waste storage and disposal regulations and best practices.
  • Cleans and maintains spray guns and other painting equipment
  • Maintains a clean work area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
The Autobody Paint Helper must be able to clearly demonstrate their ability to set and reach performance goals set forth by the owner/operator.
  • Excellent customer service skills, both verbal and written.
  • Good knowledge of the processes, techniques and materials used in painting automotive equipment
  • Must have the ability to work independently or with less supervision
  • Should have excellent verbal communication skills
  • Must have the ability to work under pressure
  • Experience within Fire and Emergency related industry
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Exceptional organizational methods
  • Attention to detail and the ability to provide consistent work
  • Dedication to customer service and business success
  • Ability to engage in and maintain positive relationships with employees, vendors and customers
  • Computer skills: Must be proficient with Microsoft Outlook Email, Microsoft Word & Excel programs as well with any company provided software

Education and/or Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Formal Training and/or Trade School Training Preferred
  • Valid Driver's License and eligible to be covered under the Siddons Martin insurance policy

Training Programs and Regular Business Meetings
With appropriate notification, the Autobody Paint Helper agrees to attend and participate in all career specific seminars, training courses, industry related certification programs and internal company training and or meetings recommended or scheduled by the business owner/operator.

It is the responsibility of the Autobody Paint Helper to always conduct him/herself in a professional manner. This includes the agreement not to use any foul or objectionable language towards any customer, vendor, co-worker or employee. To refrain from any negative comments about any customer, vendor, competitor or employee. As a Autobody Paint Helper, you are expected to maintain composure with all customers, vendors and employees always and to carry out all defined duties in a professional manner.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk stairs and/or climb ladders. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
