The Raytheon Hardware Engineering Organization leads the hardware design, development and production support of a wide breadth of air, land, sea, and space systems. The Hardware Engineering team strives to be the premier organization for mechanical design and development through our world class people and technology - creating trusted, innovative solutions to make the world a safer place. Hardware Engineering's capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation.
Within the Hardware Engineering Organization, the Undersea & Electronics Systems (UES) Department leads the mechanical design, development, and integration of products, including but not limited to undersea sensors and analysis, naval platforms, shipboard/ground-based processing and power equipment, and launchers.
The UES department is looking for a full-time Senior Mechanical Engineer to become a member of the ESSM® Missile Launcher team. This role will be on-site and located in Portsmouth, RI.
What You Will Do
  • Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.
  • Collaborate across multiple disciplines/functions (i.e. structural/thermal analyses and electrical engineering) to solve complex technical challenges in a fast-paced, team environment.

  • Support the factory and suppliers with product integration

  • Participate in design peer reviews, resolving action items, and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions.
  • Work with limited supervision and meet commitments for assigned schedule, financial, and technical goals.

Must Have
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience in leading small development efforts and teams with cost and schedule responsibility
  • Experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5), Tolerance Analysis, metal fabrication (machining, sheet metal), assembly joining techniques (fasteners, rivets, inserts)
  • Experience with CAD modeling and Engineering Documentation practices.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer
  • Experience in specification, design, development, production and testing of electronics systems. Specific knowledge of packaging electronic equipment to meet physical and environmental constraints is preferred
  • Experience with technical execution and development of proposal cost and technical volumes.
  • Experience with or certifications to write engineering basis of estimates (BOEs)
  • Ability to support international travel (~30%) to customer sites or suppliers
  • Experience with PTC CREO and PDM
  • Experience and certifications in Earned Value Project Management
  • Demonstrated ability to solve difficult problems while working as part of a cross functional team
  • Strong communication skillset with ability to articulate, in both oral and written form, to technical, non-technical and management audiences

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.
