Position Summary

The IT Support Intern will join the IT team in a hands-on, learning-focused role that provides exposure to the systems, practices, and services required to build and support a reliable IT ecosystem for employees and customers. Working under the guidance of experienced team members, the intern will learn about workplace technology, systems administration, device support, security practices, and structured investigation and troubleshooting. The role also offers practical experience in customer service, professional communication, and working with people who have varying levels of technical knowledge. This internship is well suited to a curious and resourceful individual who is comfortable not always knowing the answer, but is motivated to research, learn, ask thoughtful questions, and find an appropriate solution.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide courteous first-line support to employees and, where applicable, customers experiencing common hardware, software, account, or connectivity issues.

  • Assist with the setup, configuration, deployment, and maintenance of PCs, laptops, monitors, printers, and other workplace technology.

  • Support Microsoft applications and services, including common productivity and collaboration tools, under the guidance of the IT team.

  • Help investigate and troubleshoot technical issues by gathering information, testing potential solutions, documenting findings, and escalating issues when appropriate.

  • Assist with employee onboarding and offboarding activities, including device preparation, account setup, access changes, equipment collection, and checklist completion.

  • Record support requests, actions taken, resolutions, and follow-up items accurately in the appropriate tracking or ticketing system.

  • Create and update user guides, troubleshooting notes, inventory records, and other IT documentation.

  • Support routine IT asset management activities, including inventory checks, equipment labelling, and tracking device assignments.

  • Participate in basic systems administration, security, audit, and access-management activities in accordance with established procedures and supervision.

  • Assist with IT projects such as workstation deployments, system updates, technology rollouts, process improvements, and office or meeting-room setup.

  • Communicate clearly and patiently with users, provide timely status updates, and contribute to a positive customer-service experience.

  • Protect confidential information and follow company policies relating to acceptable use, privacy, information security, and data handling.

  • Participate in team meetings, training, and knowledge-sharing sessions, and complete other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, a program in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related field; equivalent practical interest or experience will also be considered.

  • Good command of the English language, with clear verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated curiosity, learning agility, and willingness to research unfamiliar questions rather than being discouraged by not knowing the immediate answer.

  • Customer-service mindset, with patience, professionalism, and an interest in helping people resolve technology issues.

  • Basic familiarity with IT systems, Microsoft products, Windows-based PCs, computer hardware, peripherals, or workplace technology; hands-on experience is an asset but not required.

  • Foundational problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to follow troubleshooting steps and document work accurately.

  • Ability to follow instructions, established procedures, and security practices while knowing when to ask questions or escalate an issue.

  • Strong attention to detail, organization, reliability, and follow-through.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also completing assigned tasks independently.

  • Commitment to handling company, employee, and customer information with discretion and confidentiality.

Compensation:
The anticipated hourly pay range for this internship is $20-$25 per hour for undergraduate students and $30-$35 per hour for graduatelevel students, based on a goodfaith estimate. Actual pay within these ranges may vary based on academic level, skills, and relevant experience, in accordance with applicable pay transparency laws.
