Position: Manufacturing (Electrical) Engineer
Travel: Position requires extensive travel (75-80%), including travel to Canada and Mexico
Job Summary
Supports operations by evaluating production line efficiencies, designing and improving existing and new manufacturing lines, and leading projects that increase operating efficiency, productivity, and reliability. This role has a strong focus on electrical and controls engineering, including the design, development, texting, maintenance, and modernization of automated control systems using PLCs, HMIs, motors, drives, sensors, and related hardware and software across multiple manufacturing locations. The role partners closely with operations leadership and cross-functional teams to implement manufacturing and automation solutions that are safe, cost-effective, and aligned with business goals.
Responsibilities
  • Consult and interact with Operations leadership to define, develop, and finalize engineering projects.
  • Lead engineering projects at multiple locations ensuring compliance to cost estimates and established timelines.
  • Organize and manage manufacturing workflows and resources.
  • Develop, review, and approve the design or changes to production equipment, with emphasis on electrical controls and automation systems.
  • Examine plant processes and design and implement changes that improve efficiency, productivity, reliability, and safety.
  • Provide technical support for Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) based hardware and software, and utilize electrical, electronic, mechanical, and automation principles to troubleshoot and solve problems.
  • Create new control systems and integrate automated components, such as PLCs HMIs, motors, drives, sensors, and other hardware, into existing infrastructure.
  • Develop and implement software for control systems, including PLC programming and HMI design for user interaction
  • Conduct system testing and validation procedures to ensure systems perform according to specifications.
  • Analyze system performance data, troubleshoot existing systems, and implement solutions to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Make cost estimates on all assigned projects.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including system designs, installation drawings, operation manuals, reports, presentations, records, formats, and databases.
  • Organize and maintain the relevant historical data of each project.
  • Conduct follow-up meetings on the progress of ongoing projects.
  • Generate projects to improve operating efficiencies, both internal and external, and reduce the cost of manufacturing.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, vendors, and suppliers to define requirements and implement solutions.
  • Ensure all designed equipment and control systems comply with industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Perform regular system maintenance, updates, and preventative maintenance to keep systems running smoothly.
  • Responsible for updating obsolete or outdated control systems to modern controls.
  • Maintain safety conditions in your work area.
  • Safely use the personal Protective Equipment corresponding to the activities you develop and your work area.
  • Ensure that processes are effective and efficient.
  • Compliance with environmental and safety legal requirements of the area.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
    • Minimum 5 years of hands-on engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, including controls, automation, and process improvement responsibilities.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Expertise in designing, programming, troubleshooting, and supporting PLCs and related automation systems, such as Siemens and Allen Bradley products. Knowledge of HMIs, motors, drives, sensors, technical drawing interpretation, CAD software such as AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
  • Analytical Skills:
    • Strong cause-effect analysis and problem-solving abilities to identify and resolve issues within complex manufacturing and control systems.
  • Communication:
    • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with various departments, vendors, suppliers, and external stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail:
    • Meticulous attention to detail to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and safety of manufacturing and control systems.
