Description
Position Title: Assistant Professor, Computing and Information Systems (tenure-track)
Reports to: Chair of the Computing and Information Systems Department
Supervises: N/A
Primary function: Faculty member in the CIS Department, will teach a broad range of courses in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, and Information Systems with an emphasis on software development; supervise student projects; advise undergraduate majors; and maintain an active program of scholarship.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD, DSc, or equivalent terminal degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or computer-related field
- Candidates holding a master's degree in a computer-related field with significant industry experience will also be considered and encouraged to apply.
- Candidates must exhibit a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and continuing scholarly activity, and to building positive relationships with colleagues and students.
- Committed to building an innovative undergraduate teaching and research program that furthers the mission of the department and the college.
- Supervise capstone projects, advise CIS majors, and develop a research program that engages undergraduate students.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills. The Department expects faculty and staff to have the willingness to work within a team, to help with recruitment, to provide service to the department, school, and college, and to participate in the development of new curricula.
Preferred Attributes:
- Priority will be given to candidates with experience in software engineering, application development, mobile applications, web development, game design, operating systems, and computer organization/architecture.
- Preference will be given to candidates who can contribute to multidisciplinary courses in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, and Information Systems.
- Previous teaching experience is preferred.
Departmental Background:
The CIS department offers Bachelor of Science degree programs in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, and Information Systems as well as minors in all three programs. The department also offers many courses in the college's Data Science program. The Cybersecurity program is designated as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CD) by the US Department of Defense (DoD) with the designation renewed through 2030. The Cybersecurity program also supports a competition team regularly competing in national level Capture the Flag (CTF) and Red/Blue team competitions. CIS Department faculty support student clubs for both Computer Science and Cybersecurity, and the department works closely with the SVC E-Sports club. Department facilities include a primary teaching lab and two research labs.
The standard faculty teaching load is 24 credit hours per year (4-4). The teaching load during the probationary (pre-tenure) period is 21 credit hours per year. Service to the department and college is expected, and excellent communication skills are required.
