Special Message to Applicants:
Villanova University, the only Augustinian Catholic university in the nation, was founded in 1842 by the Order of Saint Augustine in Villanova, Pennsylvania, just 12 miles west of Philadelphia. A dynamic national institution-classified as a Doctoral University by the Carnegie Foundation and ranked among the top 50 by U.S. News & World Report-Villanova provides a comprehensive education rooted in the liberal arts; a shared commitment to the Augustinian ideals of truth, unity and love; and a community dedicated to service to others. The College of Engineering's success in living up to these ideals has made us one of the most respected engineering programs in the country, and our commitment to those values is evident in our excellent faculty and staff, innovative academic programs, cutting edge research and extensive service opportunities, which leave an impact on the world.
The Center for Engineering Education and Research (CEER) of the College of Engineering is under an expansion project, expanding its footprint on campus with a 150,000 square foot addition to the primary engineering building. The CEER expansion is an ambitious and forward-looking project developed through a collaborative process with input from engineering faculty and students. In addition to creating a new home for the entire engineering community, the expansion will impact and elevate every aspect of the College's academic and student experience with improved and expanded research facilities focused on interdisciplinary connections and state-of-the-art instruction spaces for hands-on, problem-oriented and team-based learning. The project is scheduled to be completed by Fall 2024, which will ignite significant changes through interdisciplinary research and innovative teaching and learning.
In the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, our 20 full-time faculty members provide a rigorous educational experience for approximately 298 undergraduates and 106 graduate students, developing well-rounded leaders and life-long learners who aspire to achieve professional excellence in whatever field they choose. We are equally committed to the discovery, dissemination, advancement and application of cutting-edge research, as evidenced by our faculty, which includes three IEEE Fellows, a winner of the prestigious Humboldt prize, a Fulbright Distinguished Chair, three IEEE Distinguished Lecturers, one NSF Career Awardee, multiple NSF awards and a publication record to match. In the past few years, the department has successfully secured a number of national (NSF, NIH, etc.) and local industrial (L3Harris, Delta Information, etc.) grants. In return, our dedicated teacher-scholars enjoy a work-life balance and family-friendly programs that forge a sense of community.
