Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Specialist, Systems Engineering to support the design, development, integration, and delivery of advanced software solutions for mission-critical defense systems. The ideal candidate will have experience leading technical efforts across the full software development lifecycle, collaborating directly with customers, and developing secure, scalable solutions in cross-functional engineering environments.  This role requires a strong background in software architecture, systems integration, diagnostics, automation, and secure software development, along with the ability to work across multiple programming languages and platforms.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Lead end-to-end software development efforts including architecture, design, implementation, testing, documentation, and delivery.
  • Serve as a primary technical interface with customers, coordinating schedules, communicating progress, and aligning deliverables with evolving requirements.
  • Design and develop scalable authentication and authorization solutions to enforce system access control policies.
  • Lead small technical teams in the development of diagnostics and monitoring tools to improve system health visibility and accelerate root-cause analysis.
  • Investigate customer requests, analyze requirements, and implement effective software solutions.
  • Maintain and update interface definition documentation and other technical artifacts.
  • Design and implement software libraries for integration between Java applications and native APIs on Windows and Linux systems.
  • Develop and maintain unit tests for C++, Python, and Java-based applications.
  • Support software modernization efforts, including containerization and reduction of technical debt in legacy codebases.
  • Automate development and release processes using scripting and web automation tools.
  • Contribute to multiple software programs through feature enhancements, bug fixes, security updates, and platform improvements.
  • Create user manuals and technical documentation to support delivered capabilities.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with time-critical requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Current or recently held Top Secret/SCI DoD security clearance and be able to maintain required clearance. 
  • Must be able to work occasional weekend or overtime hours, as required. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Graduate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, a minimum 8 years of prior related experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ELINT receiver systems, signal analysis equipment and techniques.  
  • Demonstrated experience with ELINT databases such as EPL, CED, EWIR, MIDB, etc. 
  • Demonstrated professional software engineering experience in defense, aerospace, or other mission-critical environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading software development efforts and/or small technical teams.
  • Demonstrated practical experience with:
    • C / C++
    • Python
    • Java
    • Bash
  • Demonstrated experience with software development on Windows and Linux platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience with unit testing frameworks and software verification practices.
  • Demonstrated experience with technical documentation, interface definitions, and customer-facing engineering communication.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with secure software practices and access control implementation.
