Job description

Job Title: OSP CAD Designer
Location: Charlotte, NC
Department: Fiber Engineering

About the Role:
TEP is looking for a full-time OSP CAD Designer to join our growing Charlotte, NC office. In this role, you’ll be an essential part of our engineering team, creating construction-ready drawings for utility and telecommunications projects. If you have a strong background in AutoCAD and a sharp eye for design detail, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Work directly with project engineers to produce high-quality construction drawings for utility infrastructure
  • Plan and prepare detailed layouts based on engineering sketches, notes, and field data
  • Research applicable codes, standards, and jurisdictional requirements to ensure compliance
  • Gather and import land base data and utility as-builts (e.g., shapefiles) for use in design
  • Create permit drawings, utility schematics, and as-built documentation
  • Maintain organized records of all drawing revisions, project files, and submittals
  • Submit encroachment and specialty permits to cities, counties, and railroads (e.g., CSX, NSRR)
  • Input as-built information into client mapping and records systems
  • Participate in field visits as needed to gather project-specific design information
  • Assist with maintaining project schedules and staying within task-level budgets
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the project manager

What We’re Looking For:
  • 2+ years of experience using AutoCAD; experience with Civil 3D is a plus
  • Strong understanding of CAD principles including layers, scales, viewports, and x-references
  • Prior experience with fiber, small cell, or DAS projects is preferred but not required
  • Working knowledge of public ROWs, utility easements, and common infrastructure layouts
  • Familiarity with GIS platforms like QGIS or ArcGIS is preferred, but not required
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering/construction drawings accurately
  • Comfortable prioritizing tasks across multiple deadlines and projects
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and on a team
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 20% for field visits and coordination meetings
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record (past 5 years)
  • Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening

Education Requirements:
A degree is not required, but is a plus. Candidates with backgrounds in Drafting amp; Design Technology, Civil Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or related fields are strongly encouraged to apply.
