Job description

RRC is seeking a talented Relay Settings Engineer to help us build the future of both U.S. and Canada energy production from both remote work locations and any one of our U.S. or Canadian office locations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and calculate protective relay settings for transmission, distribution, substations, and renewable energy facilities
  • Perform relay coordination studies, short circuit studies, and fault analysis for utility and industrial power systems
  • Support the design, implementation, and review of protection schemes
  • Investigate relay operations and assist with troubleshooting protection system issues
  • Prepare relay settings files, technical calculations, coordination reports, and supporting engineering documentation
  • Review one-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, relay logic diagrams, and protection and control drawings for accuracy and compliance
  • Utilize modeling and analysis software such as ETAP, ASPEN, SKM, CAPE, or similar tools to support engineering studies and relay coordination
  • Coordinate with utilities, project managers, field personnel, and multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout project execution
  • Support commissioning, testing, and energization activities for substations and power system equipment
  • Maintain documentation and ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, utility requirements, and client specifications
  • Support project schedules, budgets, and deliverables while maintaining quality work and client satisfaction

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or related field required
  • Masterโ€™s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of related experience in relay settings, protection and control engineering, or power systems engineering
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license in the U.S. or P.Eng. in Canada (or ability to obtain
  • Strong understanding of power system protection principles and relay coordination practices
  • Working experience and familiarity with Distance Relays, Differential Relays, and Overcurrent Relays
  • Experience developing relay settings for transmission and distribution systems
  • Knowledge of IEEE, NERC, and applicable utility protection standards
  • Experience using modeling and power system analysis tools such as ETAP, ASPEN, SKM, or similar software
  • Ability to perform coordination studies, fault analysis, and protection system troubleshooting
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, relay logic diagrams, and wiring drawings
  • Strong analytical, organizational, technical writing, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
