Job description

Drilling Engineer, Intern
Position Summary
This internship position will learn about and support drilling engineering department in the areas of performance monitoring, coordinating, and performing research on geothermal drilling projects. Under direct supervision, the position will also conduct tasks related to drilling operations improvement regarding safety, operability, efficiency, and profitability.
Essential Functions
  • Review offset wells to anticipate problems that could occur when drilling.
  • Research new technology that can be employed and provide field support for implementation
  • Develop drilling programs, cost estimates, and drilling schedules
  • Assist with permitting and procurement for drilling, monitor drilling operations, and provide technical assistance as needed.
  • Document drilling operations and well records
  • Participate in drilling calls
  • 20% travel

Other Responsibilities
  • Provide engineering assistance to drilling and field operations as needed
  • Perform special projects and other tasks as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required
  • Current enrollment in a Bachelor of Science degree program in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or related field.
  • Ability to work in a professional and collaborative environment.
  • Must have the ability to read, write and speak English at a level that will permit the employee to understand and communicate information in a manner that will enable the employee to safely and efficiently perform the job duties.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to work in plant/drilling operating areas including exposure to noise, vibrations, heat and cold.
  • Must be able to wear any required protective equipment, as required by safety procedures and regulations.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds.
  • Travel approximately 20% of the time.
