CAD Engineer – Civil Construction

Position Summary

The CAD Engineer will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and revising both 2D and 3D AutoCAD drawings for civil construction projects. This position will focus heavily on mechanical piping systems, concrete lift drawings, and other construction-related design documentation. The ideal candidate will have strong technical drafting skills, experience developing AutoCAD standards, and the ability to create custom blocks and templates to improve drafting efficiency and consistency.

This role is primarily office-based at TF Contracting's Phoenix headquarters; however, occasional travel to project sites may be required to perform field measurements, verify existing conditions, and assist with project layout activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop accurate and detailed 2D and 3D technical drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Prepare mechanical piping layouts, fabrication drawings, and installation details.
  • Create concrete lift drawings and related construction documentation.
  • Develop and maintain AutoCAD blocks, templates, and drafting standards.
  • Interpret engineering specifications, sketches, field notes, and design concepts into construction-ready drawings.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, superintendents, and field personnel to ensure drawing accuracy and constructability.
  • Revise and update drawings throughout project lifecycles.
  • Conduct occasional field visits to collect measurements, verify dimensions, and support project layout activities.
  • Maintain organized drawing files and document control procedures.
  • Assist in developing drawing libraries and standard operating procedures for CAD production.

Qualifications

Required

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD with demonstrated experience producing both 2D and 3D drawings.
  • Experience preparing technical drawings within the civil construction, industrial, or related construction industries.
  • Strong understanding of drafting standards, dimensioning practices, and construction documentation.
  • Experience creating and managing AutoCAD blocks, dynamic blocks, templates, and drawing standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and construction plans.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to visit project sites as needed.

Preferred

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Drafting, Design Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience with mechanical piping systems and concrete construction drawings.
  • Familiarity with civil construction methods and field operations.
  • Experience coordinating directly with construction teams and field personnel.
