About the Role:
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Hardware Engineering team. This role has a strong mechanical engineering focus, with exposure to electrical systems primarily from an integration and interface perspective. The position supports new system development, payload integration, and subsystem design for uncrewed surface vessels, working closely with electrical and software engineers to ensure robust, manufacturable, and field-ready hardware solutions.
The ideal candidate is highly proficient in mechanical design and CAD, experienced in bringing complex mechanical systems from concept through production, and comfortable collaborating with electrical engineers to define interfaces, routing, and packaging-without being the primary electrical designer.
Key Responsibilities and Requirements:
  • System Development & Architecture
Lead and contribute to the mechanical design and integration of new systems and payloads, including structural components, enclosures, mounts, and overall system packaging. Support electrical integration by defining mechanical interfaces, routing paths, and mounting solutions.
  • Mechanical Design
Create detailed CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings using SolidWorks for mechanical structures, housings, brackets, mounts, and mechanisms suitable for marine operating environments.
  • Electrical Interface Support
Work alongside electrical engineers to support integration of wiring harnesses, connectors, and electronic subsystems. Interpret electrical schematics as needed and assist with mechanical aspects of cable routing, strain relief, connector mounting, and environmental protection.
  • Integration & Testing
Participate in hardware builds, subsystem and bench testing, vehicle integration, and troubleshooting to validate mechanical designs and ensure reliable performance in operational conditions.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration
Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to specify, design, build, test, and integrate mechanically driven subsystems and electromechanical components (e.g., actuators, motors, power distribution hardware) into vehicles.
  • Documentation
Produce and maintain accurate mechanical documentation including CAD drawings, bills of materials, interface control documentation (ICDs), test results, and configuration management records.
  • Manufacturing & Production Support
Partner with technicians and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, serviceable, and appropriate for rugged, marine environments.

Qualifications:
  • 4-7 years of experience in mechanical engineering design and system integration.
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks for mechanical CAD modeling and drafting.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical systems, materials, tolerances, and structural design.
  • Working familiarity with electrical systems sufficient to support integration (e.g., connectors, harness routing, grounding, environmental sealing).
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting mechanical and electromechanical systems.
  • Experience working in cross-functional engineering teams and integrating subsystems into complete platforms.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a Secret Security Clearance.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with payload integration for uncrewed vehicle systems, particularly maritime or aerospace platforms.
  • Familiarity with mechanical aspects of wiring harness routing, connectorization and enclosure design.
  • Knowledge of thermal management, sealing, vibration, and shock considerations for embedded hardware.
  • Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM) and ruggedized or marine systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and field-support mindset.
  • Experience with additive manufacturing

Location:
  • Must be able to work from our North Kingstown (Quonset Point) RI office onsite 3+ days per week.
