In this role, the Electrical CAD Designer will be responsible for creating and maintaining electrical schematics, control panel layouts, wiring diagrams, cable routing, Bills of Materials, and manufacturing documentation using SolidWorks Electrical for Armstrong's modular HVAC, pumping, and packaged plant room solutions. The role will work closely with Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Manufacturing, and Production teams to convert engineering designs into production-ready documentation while ensuring accuracy, quality, manufacturability, and compliance with company standards.

Key Accountabilities Electrical Drawing Development
  • Create detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, terminal schedules, panel layouts, and cable routing drawings using AutoCAD and SolidWorks Electrical.
  • Develop and maintain electrical drawing packages for power distribution, controls, instrumentation, and packaged HVAC systems.
  • Produce General Arrangement (GA) drawings, electrical equipment layouts, and installation drawings to support manufacturing and site requirements.
  • Generate and maintain accurate electrical Bills of Materials (BOMs), cable schedules, and drawing revision records.
CAD Documentation & Standards
  • Develop and maintain electrical documentation in accordance with project specifications and company standards.
  • Maintain engineering documentation within PDM/PLM systems and ensure drawing revisions are properly controlled.
  • Ensure all drawings comply with Armstrong drafting standards, electrical codes, customer requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and drawing updates throughout the project lifecycle.
Manufacturing & Production Support
  • Work closely with Manufacturing and Production teams to resolve electrical drawing and assembly issues.
  • Support panel fabrication inquiries, equipment wiring, and electrical testing activities by providing accurate manufacturing documentation.
  • Review supplier drawings and integrate vendor equipment information into project documentation.
  • Support prototype builds, production improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Coordinate with Electrical, Controls, Mechanical, Procurement, Manufacturing, and Project teams to ensure documentation accuracy and project readiness.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide CAD expertise to improve product quality and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Support project execution by delivering electrical documentation on schedule and resolving drawing-related issues promptly.
What We’re Looking For

To thrive in this role, you should bring:

Education and Experience
  • Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Design, or a related discipline.
  • 3-8 years of experience creating electrical production drawings, manufacturing documentation, or control system designs.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing environments involving industrial controls, power distribution, motor control, and instrumentation systems.
  • Experience working with HVAC systems, pumping systems, industrial automation, or packaged equipment is considered an asset.
Technical Skills
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks Electrical Schematic and 3D.
  • Experience creating electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, interconnection diagrams, terminal plans, and cable schedules.
  • Experience developing control panel layouts and electrical equipment layouts using SolidWorks Electrical.
  • Experience with electrical routing and integration between electrical and mechanical assemblies in SolidWorks.
  • Strong understanding of control systems, instrumentation, VFDs, PLC panels, motor controls, and power distribution systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, panel layouts, P&IDs, and control narratives.
  • Experience generating accurate Bills of Materials and manufacturing documentation.
  • Familiarity with UL508A, CSA, NEC, NFPA 70, and industrial electrical standards.
  • Experience with PDM/PLM systems and engineering document control.
  • AutoCAD Electrical experience is considered an asset but not required.
