Job description

CAD/CAM Programmer
Metals USA has an immediate opening for a CAD/CAM Programmer in the Muskogee, OK facility. The CAD/CAM Programmer must be familiar with CNC equipment using Auto-CAD; to create drawings and CNC programs using the CAD/CAM software for coordinating all production and technical communications between customers, sales and manufacturing. Starting hour rate is $23 per hour depending on experience
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develops, designs and details mechanical components, process plans using Auto-CAD.
  • Acts as a resource for technical guidance to manufacturing and sales departments.
  • Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.
  • Assures system and product quality by designing testing methods, test finished-product and system capabilities, confirming fabrication, assembly and installation processes.
  • Nests parts as required on sheets or blanks to maximize material and production efficiency.
  • Provides design assistance for products and produce engineer drawings.
  • Provides print generation capability from customer CAD files.
  • Maintains system and product data base by writing computer programs and entering data.
  • Works closely with CNC operators to determine proper tooling, speed feed ratios for optimal performance output.
  • Monitors, documents and controls any changes made to CNC programs
  • Notifies management of product discrepancies.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required to perform the duties of a CAD/CAM Programmer.
  • Maintains work area in a clean, orderly and safe manner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • High School diploma/GED; Technical school training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 2 experience as a CAD Programmer desired preferably in the precision sheet metal industry; flat pattern CAD drawing expertise is required
  • Must have knowledge of design specifications and manufacturing processes.
  • Must have strong , demonstrated sustained working abilities in a fast paced production area
  • Must have mechanical aptitude and strong math skills
  • Must be organized with attention to detail
  • Ability to present technical information and have designs skills.
  • Ability to communicate both oral & written effectively with both internal & external customers.
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, tolerance information
  • Ability to adapt quickly to change and work under tight deadlines
  • Ability to read measuring instruments such as measuring tapes, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators and gauges
  • Computer Literacy; Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Excel and Word) and Auto-CAD
  • Candidate must pass pre-employment drug screen

Physical Demands:
Occupation requires being sedentary less than or equal to 75% of the time (< to 6 hours per day).
  • Stand, walk, sit, hearing, talking, use of hands and fingers, hand-eye coordination, reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, squat or kneel or bend
  • Regularly required to work on multiple concurrent tasks with constant interruptions
  • Occasionally drives a vehicle to visit customers
  • Lift, carry, push and/or pull up to a maximum of 30 lbs. without assistance

Other Physical Requirements:
  • Must wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Steel-toed boots
  • Hard hats with chin straps; chin straps must be worn at all times when in the warehouse.

May be exposed to some of the following working conditions.
  • Position works primarily in an office/cubicle environment

  • Oils, dust, fumes and metallic particles
  • Quiet to moderate noise levels
