Position Overview:
At PTA Plastics, we are seeking a motivated Automation Engineering Intern to join our team and support continuous improvement initiatives within our plastics manufacturing operations. This internship offers hands-on experience in process optimization, problem-solving, and lean manufacturing principles while working closely with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidates are detail-oriented, analytical thinkers with passion for identifying inefficiencies and drive sustainable solutions.
Pay: $25/hr
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Understand and adhere to all internal company safety protocols.
  • Prepare and set up automation equipment according to production specifications and requirements.
  • Conduct trials and test runs to ensure proper functioning of the automation equipment.
  • Participate in build and design of automation equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on equipment, including cleaning, lubrication, and inspection.
  • Analyze, improve, maintain spare parts inventory.
  • Work closely with production personnel and engineers to optimize processes, reduce cycle times, and improve product quality.
  • Monitor and inspect produced parts to ensure adherence to quality standards and specifications.
  • Work with the Automation Engineers to make necessary adjustments to automation equipment settings and processes to correct any deviations or defects.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and provide suggestions for enhancing operational efficiency and product quality.
  • Learn and apply LEAN manufacturing techniques while working on internal continuous improvement projects.
  • Learn and apply basic Return On Investment (ROI) techniques to justify project budgets.

Qualifications:
  • Recent high school graduate or currently pursuing a technical certificate or degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Engineering (or related fields).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify trends.
  • Experience with CAD software.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

  • Be available to commit to the full duration of the internship.
