How much do computer electronic engineering jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 11, 2026, the average yearly pay for computer electronic engineering in the United States is $60,843.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $46,000.00 and $70,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges Computer Electronic Engineers face when working on multidisciplinary projects?

Computer Electronic Engineers often collaborate with professionals from software, mechanical, and systems engineering backgrounds. One common challenge is ensuring effective communication across disciplines, as technical jargon and design priorities can vary significantly. Additionally, aligning hardware development with rapidly changing software requirements can create tight timelines and the need for flexible problem-solving. Strong teamwork skills and an openness to feedback are essential to navigate these complexities successfully.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Computer Electronic Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Computer Electronic Engineer, you need a strong background in electronic circuit design, computer architecture, and embedded systems, usually supported by a bachelor's degree in electrical, computer, or electronic engineering. Familiarity with hardware description languages (like VHDL or Verilog), PCB design tools (such as Altium Designer), and relevant certifications (like Professional Engineer licensure) is often required. Critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective teamwork are vital soft skills that set top engineers apart. These combined skills ensure the successful design, implementation, and maintenance of complex computer and electronic systems in a rapidly evolving technology landscape.

What is the difference between Computer Electronic Engineering vs Electrical Engineering?

AspectComputer Electronic EngineeringElectrical Engineering
CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Computer Electronic EngineeringBachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering
Work EnvironmentDesigning and developing computer hardware, embedded systems, and digital circuitsPower systems, electrical machinery, and large-scale electrical infrastructure
Industry UsageTechnology companies, consumer electronics, embedded systemsUtilities, manufacturing, energy sectors

Computer Electronic Engineering focuses on designing computer hardware and embedded systems, while Electrical Engineering covers broader electrical systems and power infrastructure. Both fields share foundational knowledge but differ in application areas and industry focus.

What can I do with an electronic and Computer Engineering degree?

A degree in electronic and computer engineering prepares individuals for careers in designing, developing, and testing electronic systems, embedded systems, and computer hardware. Common roles include hardware engineer, embedded systems engineer, firmware developer, and systems analyst, often requiring knowledge of programming languages, circuit design, and industry standards. Graduates can work in industries such as telecommunications, consumer electronics, aerospace, and information technology.

Which is the highest paid ECE job?

The highest paid roles in electronic and computer engineering typically include senior positions such as systems architect, engineering manager, or director of engineering, often requiring advanced skills in FPGA design, embedded systems, or chip design. These roles usually offer higher salaries due to their leadership responsibilities and specialized expertise, with compensation increasing with experience, certifications, and industry demand.

What is Computer Electronic Engineering?

Computer Electronic Engineering is a discipline that combines principles of electrical engineering and computer science to design, develop, and maintain computer hardware and embedded systems. Professionals in this field work on creating and improving electronic components, such as microprocessors, circuit boards, and memory devices, as well as integrating hardware with software. They play a vital role in advancing technology for computers, mobile devices, automotive systems, and more. The field requires strong analytical skills and knowledge in both hardware and software engineering.

What engineers make $500,000?

Senior electrical and computer engineers with extensive experience, advanced skills in hardware design, and leadership roles in high-tech industries can earn $500,000 or more annually. These positions often require advanced degrees, specialized certifications, and work in sectors like aerospace, defense, or large technology firms.

What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Senior computer electronic engineers, especially those in specialized fields like embedded systems, hardware design, or working in high-demand industries such as aerospace or defense, can earn $300,000 or more annually. Achieving this level typically requires extensive experience, advanced skills, and often leadership roles or working in high-cost-of-living areas.
