Job description

Act as the liaison between multiple delivery vendors/companies to ensure smooth and quick deliveries of all hospital commodities in a timely fashion. Is the first point of contact when delivery vendors have questions/issues/damages for hospital products being delivered to both DHMC shipping docks (50 LaBombard North / 1 Medical Center Drive Responsible for the efficient receipt and distribution of supplies and equipment, patient care equipment tracking and management, throughout all D-H facilities. Monitors inventory levels and ensures supply availability and the efficient utilization of supply resources.



  1. Acts as the first point of contact for vendors/delivery companies delivering or picking up product for DHMC that need access to the shipping dock.

  2. Is the first point of contact for shipping/delivery related issues for end users of DHMC.

  3. Supports department manager in creating delivery routes to efficiently move product from the delivery dock to end user locations in a timely manner.

  4. Assists department manger in tracking lost or misdelivered packages to end user locations.

  5. Communicates regularly with the department manager and other supervisors regarding safety concerns, customer and employee complaints, personnel issues, process changes and other relevant issues.

  6. Maintains a professional working relationship with, and provides customer service to, clinical staff and other internal departments.

  7. Participates in continuing education programs and benchmarking activities.

  8. Notes any shipping discrepancies or damages on the shipping documentation via delivery scanner or BOL.

  9. Facilitates the processes of materials being returned to vendors or other facilities and coordinates shipping.

  10. Receipts for all incoming supplies and materials from vendors, carriers, and delivery services noting any shipping discrepancies or damages on the shipping documentation.

  11. Designs work systems and processes to deliver value to patients and customers. In conjunction with the department manager performs capability, demand, and process reviews to drive productivity and reduce non-value-added work.

  12. Works collaboratively with all D-H departments to ensure that supply handling is optimized and that Supply Chain staff respond promptly and accurately to departmental requests and concerns.

  13. Operates material handling equipment to include pallet jacks, pallet lift, hand trucks, and flatbed or stock carts.

  14. Works closely with the Biomed department in maintaining the clinical equipment by performing a user level premaintenance check.



  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.

  • Four years experience in receiving, distribution of products, warehousing, storekeeping, hospital Central Service or Inventory Control preferred (or combination of knowledge and education that would exhibit the qualifications to execute the duties of the position).

  • Experience with PeopleSoft.

  • Ability to utilize the EPIC system to monitor requests from clinical staff.

  • Computer input/keyboard experience desired.

  • Computerized Supply Chain Management system experience preferred.

  • Experience in using an electronic signature software preferred.

  • Basic experience in PC business applications including MS Word and Excel.

  • Knowledge of hospital medical supplies and terminology.

  • Knowledge of and skill in the use of personal computer and related systems and software.

  • Skill in good oral, written, and interpersonal communication.

  • Ability to do basic math calculations and apply them to the day-to-day job process.

  • Ability to operate equipment, pallet jacks and lifts as required.

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.

  • Ability to set priorities and use good judgment.
