What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Computer Database Administrator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Computer Database Administrator, you need a strong background in database management, SQL, and data modeling, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with database platforms such as Oracle, SQL Server, or MySQL, and certifications like Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professional are highly valued. Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication help administrators resolve issues and collaborate with IT teams. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring data integrity, security, and optimal performance of critical business systems.

What are some common challenges Computer Database Administrators face, and how can they effectively overcome them?

Computer Database Administrators often encounter challenges such as ensuring data security, managing database performance, and handling unexpected outages or data corruption. Staying proactive with regular database backups, monitoring performance metrics, and keeping up with the latest security patches are essential practices. Collaboration with IT teams and end-users also helps in quickly resolving issues and optimizing database operations. Continuous learning and adapting to new database technologies can further enhance efficiency and career progression.

What are computer database administrators?

Computer database administrators are IT professionals responsible for managing and maintaining an organization's databases. They ensure databases are secure, available, and perform efficiently, handling tasks like backup, recovery, updates, and user permissions. Database administrators also troubleshoot issues, optimize queries, and help design database structures to support business needs. Their work is crucial for data integrity, security, and accessibility within organizations.

Is DBA replaced by AI?

A Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for managing, maintaining, and securing databases. While AI and automation tools can assist with routine tasks like backups and monitoring, DBAs are still essential for designing databases, troubleshooting complex issues, and implementing security measures. AI is a tool that complements a DBA's skills rather than replacing the role entirely.

ABOUT YOU
Are you an analytical thinker who loves a new challenge? Do you thrive in a fast-paced environment where you can investigate process improvements? Do you enjoy finding new solutions and executing them? If the answer is "Yes!" then we have an exciting opportunity for you. We are ARCO, a Family of Construction Companies.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative ServiceNow Administrator to support the design, development, and optimization of our ServiceNow platform. In this role, you will partner closely with business stakeholders and technical teams to ensure the platform delivers value, improves processes, and supports day-to-day operations.
As the Product Owner, you will be responsible for translating business needs into actionable requirements, prioritizing work, and ensuring that solutions are executed effectively. You'll play a key role in driving continuous improvement, maintaining platform quality, and supporting the overall ServiceNow roadmap.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
We are dedicated to the well-being of our associates and are proud to be consistently recognized as a Best Place to Work. Our compensation and benefits package not only supports our associates and their families but benefits local communities and communities around the world.
  • Industry-leading performance-based bonus program
  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
  • Traditional and Roth 401k
  • Tuition reimbursement for associates
  • Scholarship for associates' children up to $28,000 per child
  • 1-month paid sabbatical after every five years of employment, plus $5,000 for travel
  • 1-week paid volunteer leave each year
  • 100% charitable match
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage
  • 100% paid 12-week maternity leave

At ARCO, our first core value is to treat people fairly and do the right thing. We are committed to building and sustaining a culture that supports diversity and inclusion. We are an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment.
From recruiting, training, and hiring practices to selecting our subcontractors, we understand that diversity of all those involved in the construction process enhances our ability to deliver the best solutions to our customers. We hire the best and the brightest from across the country - constructing a team of experts in architecture, design, engineering, project management, and business services.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned ServiceNow modules and capabilities, supporting both business and technical teams
  • Gather, define, and document business requirements, translating them into user stories and functional specifications
  • Manage and prioritize the product backlog, ensuring alignment with business needs and platform strategy
  • Partner with developers and administrators to support the design, configuration, and enhancement of ServiceNow applications (ITSM, HR, Project Management, CMDB, etc.)
  • Participate in sprint planning, testing, and release activities to ensure high-quality delivery of features and enhancements
  • Support platform governance by ensuring configurations follow best practices and align with established standards
  • Monitor platform performance and user feedback to identify opportunities for improvement and optimization
  • Assist in troubleshooting issues and coordinating resolutions with technical teams
  • Maintain documentation and contribute to knowledge-sharing efforts to support adoption and usability
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure solutions are aligned with business processes and deliver expected outcomes

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3-5 years of experience working with ServiceNow or similar enterprise platforms
  • ServiceNow certifications are a plus
  • Experience supporting or configuring ServiceNow modules such as ITSM, HR, Project Management, or CMDB
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, backlog management, and product ownership principles
  • Ability to translate business needs into clear technical requirements and user stories
  • Working knowledge of ServiceNow flows, integrations, and scripting
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to continuous improvement
  • Travel: Up to 10% as needed

MAKE YOUR MOVE
We are proud to be one of the fastest-growing, privately-owned companies in America, celebrating over 30 years of experience as design-build experts. We have completed over 6,550 design-build projects nationwide. We ranked #6 on ENR's Design-Build Firms list and #29 on ENR's Top 400 Contractors list of 2025. Most importantly, our clients like us, trust us and want to do business with us. We are looking for people with the same enthusiasm, passion, and respect for the hard work that brought us to where we are today. Are you a person that can make a difference at ARCO? If the answer is, "Yes!" we look forward to meeting you.
