Job description

Overview

VTG is seekingย an Machine-Tool Operatorย in Patuxent River, MD to troubleshoot malfunctions in variousย aircraft systems and performs general maintenance of the Presidential Helicopters Support Program.


What will you do?
  • Specialize in operating various types of machine tools (e.g., jig borer, grinding machine, engine lathe, milling machine) to machine metal for use in making or maintaining jigs, fixtures, cutting tools, gauges, metal dies or molds used in shaping metal or nonmetallic material (e.g., plastic, plaster, rubber, glass).
  • Plan and perform difficult machining operations with complicated setups and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Setup machine tools which requires installing cutting tools and adjusting guides, stops, worktables, and other controls to handle the stock size to be machined.
  • Determine proper machine feeds, speeds, tooling and operation sequence or selects those prescribed in drawings, blueprints, or layouts.
  • Utilize a variety of precision measuring instruments and making necessary adjustments during machining operation to achieve requisite dimensions within close tolerances.
  • Select proper coolants, cutting and lubricating oils and recognizes/dresses tools as required.

  • Experience: Minimum of six (6) yearsโ€™ experience in machine tool operations and aircraft maintenance environment:
    • Ability to plan and schedule maintenance work requirements.
    • Extensive knowledge of machine shop, aircraft maintenance and tool room practices.
    • Working knowledge and understanding of the NAVAIRINST 3710.1 and CNAFINST 4790.2 series, to include technical terms in associated field.
    • Ability to interact effectively with personnel at all organizational levels.
    • Requires basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Windows.

VTGโ€™s estimated pay range is $55.00 - $60.00/hr, which is a general guideline for the geographic location. When extending an offer, VTG also considers work experience, education, skill level, market considerations and may possibly include contractual requirements which may cause an offer to fall outside of this range.
