Job description

Leapros Skilled Trades is actively hiring Onsite Project Accountant in Odessa, TX. We are seeking a Project Accountant to support large-scale commercial and mission-critical construction projects by ensuring accurate financial reporting and budget management. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in construction accounting and thrives in a fast-paced environment, collaborating closely with Project Managers to manage the financial lifecycle of complex projects.

Job Type: Permanent

Annual Salary: $65,000 to $80,000 Annually BOE

Responsibilities:

  • Manage project accounting from project startup through final closeout, maintaining contracts, budgets, and change orders.
  • Prepare and issue monthly progress billings and research billing issues to ensure timely customer invoicing.
  • Review project costs and assist Project Managers with detailed budget analysis and cost variance reporting.
  • Track and follow up on aging change orders and analyze projected versus actual billings to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Participate in monthly financial review meetings with Project Managers to evaluate project performance.
  • Process customer payments, accurately apply cash receipts, and monitor outstanding receivables for collections.
  • Prepare and maintain lien waivers and other essential project financial documentation.
  • Partner with project teams to correct job cost coding and manage various expense allocations.
  • Support the Accounts Payable team with invoice processing, purchase order matching, and sales and use tax reporting.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly financial reports and assist with account reconciliations and annual audit requests.

Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of dedicated construction or project accounting experience.
  • Proven proficiency in job cost accounting and construction progress billing methods.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for complex financial analysis and reporting.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, change orders, lien waivers, and project-based billing.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with construction-specific ERP or accounting software; knowledge of Plexxis is a plus.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field is preferred.
  • Familiarity with sales and use tax reporting requirements within the construction industry.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard for prolonged periods.
  • Specific vision abilities required for close computer work and detailed document review.
  • Ability to work in an onsite project office environment, which may include navigating stairs.
  • Occasional lifting of office materials or project files up to 20 pounds.
