CAD Drafter / Designer (Contract Role)Job Description

Brooks Automation is a global leader in advanced robotics, vacuum automation, and contamination control technologies used across semiconductor manufacturing and other high-precision industries. Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated CAD Drafter / Designer to support mechanical design and documentation activities. This role works closely with a Principal Engineer to interpret design intent, understand technical requirements, and translate concepts into accurate 3D models and engineering drawings. The position is responsible for creating and detailing parts and assemblies, applying proper Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), generating exploded views, and releasing documentation through Agile PLM. The ideal candidate can clearly understand what is being requested, ask appropriate clarifying questions when needed, and work through technical problems independently with limited day-to-day direction from management or peers.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings for mechanical components and assemblies.

  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14 standards.

  • Generate assembly drawings, exploded views, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).

  • Prepare drawing packages suitable for manufacturing, inspection, and assembly.

  • Document, revise, and release drawings and related files in Agile PLM.

  • Support Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).

  • Identify and resolve design and documentation issues with minimal supervision.

  • Collaborate with engineers, manufacturing, and cross-functional teams as needed.

  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with internal drafting standards and procedures.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

Required -

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience using CREO in a CAD Drafter / Designer role.

  • Strong working knowledge of GD&T and mechanical drawing practices.

  • Experience creating detailed part drawings and complex assembly drawings.

  • Familiarity with Agile PLM (or similar product lifecycle management systems).

  • Ability to work independently and troubleshoot design issues with limited support.

  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.

  • Good communication and organizational skills.

Preferred -

  • Experience in a manufacturing, automation, or robotics environment.

  • Knowledge of machined parts, sheet metal, and mechanical assemblies.

  • Experience supporting production or sustaining engineering teams.
