Job description

Job Purpose: The function of the Technician III is to execute and safely perform work in the field according to strict methods and procedures as directed by the Project Manager and the Superintendent. This position requires a high level of Leadership and Management expertise, allowing the individual to take over for the Superintendent for short periods as required. This individual is responsible for directing field personnel to successfully complete projects involving the cleaning, Concrete Rehab, and application of Epoxy Coatings, High Performance Coatings, and 100% Solids Coatings on concrete and steel water infrastructure.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. A thorough understanding of and ability to safely use tools and equipment for Sandblasting, Pressure Washing, and Plural Component spray applications.

  2. Demonstrate strong Leadership by effectively managing, training, and communicating project requirements to field personnel.

  3. Assist the Superintendent with Management tasks, including training personnel in proper safety, Concrete Rehab techniques, and Urethane/Polyurethane Injection procedures.

  4. Identify and resolve conflicts between existing conditions and the work plan; this includes determining when to use 100% Solids Coatings or High Performance Coatings based on technical data.

  5. Expertly perform repairs, cleanings, and modifications of infrastructure, including work within a Manhole or Confined Space.

  6. Safely manage operations on an Elevated Work Surface, including the proper setup and use of an Aerial Lift.

  7. Recognize actual field conditions and communicate these to the Superintendent to ensure the work process remains efficient and safe.

  8. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum requirement of 3 years of field work with the Services Division, 5 years of field work with CROM, or 5 years of satisfactory experience in the water/wastewater, infrastructure repair, and/or coatings industry.

  • OSHA 30 certification required.

  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record and insurance.

  • Must pass a background check, drug screening, Pulmonary Function Test, and Respiratory Fit Test for Confined Space entry.

  • Successful completion of all Technician III required Safety Training and Levels 1-3 of the Field Advancement Program.

  • Must be able to work at different heights and within Manhole environments.

  • Must be a team player with a proven track record of Leadership in a diverse group.

Other Requirements:

  • Advanced understanding of construction materials, specifically Plural Component equipment and Urethane/Polyurethane Injection methods.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills for effective team Management.

  • Basic knowledge of a computer, tablet, and smartphone.

  • Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies, such as advanced Epoxy Coatings systems.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

Working Conditions:

The position requires the individual to work in the field. Travel is required to go to the job sites and overnight stays away from home will be necessary. While on site, the ability to move around a construction site is needed which will require climbing and working off the ground. Training in the use of different types of personal protective equipment, including fall protection and respirators, will be required. Typical construction site conditions are expected to include loud noises as well as dust and the odors of construction materials being utilized.
