Job description

Diagnose, repair, and refurbish avionics line-replaceable units (LRUs), circuit cards, power supplies, displays, sensors, harnesses, and other simulator electrical assemblies removed from flight simulators and training systems.

  • Perform detailed fault isolation using schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and bench-test equipment.
  • Repair printed circuit boards (Surface Mounted Device and through-hole), replace components, perform connector and harness repairs, and rework printed circuit boards (PCBs) per IPC standards.
  • Conduct functional testing, alignment, and calibration of components and subsystems to manufacturer specifications and internal test procedures.
  • Follow established maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) processes: work orders, technical data packages (TDPs), troubleshooting guides, wiring diagrams, service bulletins, and engineering change orders (ECOs).
  • Document all repair actions, test results, and parts used in maintenance records and tracking systems; generate detailed discrepancy reports when necessary.
  • Support equipment teardown, inspection, and return-to-service verification; package and stage repaired units for reinstallation or shipping.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized bench area; perform routine preventive maintenance on bench test equipment and tooling.
  • Collaborate with engineers, quality assurance, and procurement to resolve complex failures, identify root causes, and recommend design or procedural improvements.
  • Comply with company quality management system, environment, health, and safety (EHS) policies, and applicable regulatory or contractual requirements.
  • Other duties as identified and assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED; technical certificate, associate degree, or diploma in avionics, electronics, electrical engineering technology, or equivalent preferred.
  • 3+ years of hands-on avionics or electronics repair experience in a back shop, MRO, or lab environment; experience with simulator or ground-based training systems strongly preferred.
  • Proficient in electronic troubleshooting techniques, circuit theory, and use of standard bench tools (multimeter, oscilloscope, LCR meter, power supplies, soldering/desoldering stations).
  • Experience with PCB rework, component-level repairs, soldiering to IPC-A-610 / J-STD-001 standards preferred.
  • Familiarity with avionics protocols and interfaces (MIL-STD, RS-232/422/485, CAN, Ethernet) and digital/analog signal troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of reading and interpreting schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and test procedures.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude for harness work, connector mating, and handling of LRUs and assemblies.
  • Proficient computer skills; experience with test software, diagnostic tools, and maintenance tracking systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and strong written/verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Current valid U.S. Driver's License.

Must be able to analyze problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  An ability to interpret complex customer requirements and attitudes from verbal, non-verbal, and written communication is desirable. Must be able to calculate figures and numbers, and percentages and be able to draw and interpret graphs. Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and drawings.
