Job Description

The Field Broadcast Engineer is responsible for supporting Telemundo Network with remote broadcast capabilities for entertainment, sports, news, as well as Telemundo’s tentpole productions. The Field Broadcast Engineer will be responsible for operating and maintaining a ENG camera, lighting, editing and audio package as needed.

  • Responsible for managing various disciplines of remote broadcasting including but not limited to transmission, audio, video, communications, RF, and IT
  • Responsible for designing, integrating, maintaining, operating, procuring, and assembling “travel ready” light weight and streamlined broadcast systems for deployment world-wide
  • Responsible for keeping up to date paperwork on engineering systems, technical workflows, and client specific technical solutions
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory of all equipment used by Field Operations and maintain all associated documentation up to date
  • Responsible for creating pack lists and manifests of equipment being deployed domestically and internationally
  • Maintains the department up to date on latest technologies and broadcast protocols
  • Works under the direct supervision of the Manager, Field Operations and is responsible for completing any other tasks as assigned by manager as needed
Qualifications

Basic Requirements: 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience setting up remote broadcasts
  • Exhibits working knowledge and experience with:
    • Remote broadcast transmission signal flow
    • Audio mixers and microphones.
    • Professional camera setup and color matching
    • Remote to home base communications
    • Satellite uplink technology and procedures.
    • Radio frequency microphones and transmitters.
    • IP networks for use with PC’s and streaming video.
  • Associates degree from an accredited technical school/ relevant field or equivalent work experience
  • Proven experience leading and/or managing technical teams
  • Proven knowledge in all aspects of television production format

Desired Characteristics: 

  • Fluency in English and Spanish (both written and verbal) strongly preferred
  • Experience with Ross Video ( Ultrix Carbonite)
  • Ability to troubleshoot in a live television environment
  • Experience with Visio or Auto Cad
  • Detail oriented and highly organized
  • Self-starter who exhibits ownership on assigned tasks and who will push for solutions that solve immediate problems while building towards long-term goals
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast paced, dead-line driven environment
  • Accustomed to working in a team and collaborating with all levels within the organization
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail
  • Ability to build rapport with clients and manage expectations
  • Ability to effectively be flexible in approach, and respond well to pressure
  • Strong interpersonal & leadership skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Additional Requirements: 

  • This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite
  • Must be willing to work in the greater Miami, Florida area
  • Willingness to travel with short notice and on weekends
  • Candidate must be available for overnight and/or overseas travel to natural disasters or conflict-ridden parts of the world, or otherwise hazardous locations
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours including late and/or last-minute scheduling changes in a 24/7 production work environment
  • Must be available to work (whenever necessary for show production) early mornings, evenings, holidays and weekends
