Job description

Job Description Join a fast-paced engineering team where your CAD expertise will directly shape products from initial concept through to manufacturing and implementation. This is a hands-on contract role offering the opportunity to work closely with engineers on-site in Katy, TX, turning complex ideas into precise, production-ready designs. About the Role: As a CAD Designer, you will be responsible for creating and refining detailed 2D and 3D models that support projects across their full lifecycle.

You will collaborate with engineers and project teams to translate requirements into accurate drawings that meet industry standards and can be efficiently manufactured. Your work will have a direct impact on product quality, reliability, and delivery timelines. Key Responsibilities: Develop detailed 2D drawings in AutoCAD and 3D models in Autodesk Inventor for components, assemblies, and systems.

Interpret engineering concepts and requirements to produce clear, accurate, and manufacturable CAD designs. Apply GD&T principles to define tolerances and dimensions that meet functional and manufacturing needs. Revise and update existing drawings and models based on engineering changes, feedback, and design reviews.

Collaborate with engineers and manufacturing staff on-site to resolve design issues and optimize designs for production. Prepare and maintain drawing packages, BOMs, and related documentation for project handoff to manufacturing. Support projects from concept through prototyping, testing, and final implementation with timely CAD deliverables.

Identify and troubleshoot design and documentation problems, proposing practical technical solutions. Key Requirements: Strong proficiency in AutoCAD for creating and modifying detailed 2D engineering drawings. Solid experience using Autodesk Inventor for 3D modelling and assembly design in an engineering environment.

Proven ability to read, interpret, and generate engineering drawings with GD&T annotations. Demonstrated technical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in a design or engineering context. Ability to work effectively on-site in Katy, TX, collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Experience supporting projects across the full product lifecycle, from concept through to manufacturing. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drafting and documentation. Effective communication skills for working with engineers, project managers, and manufacturing personnel.

Desirable Skills: Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or product development environment. Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems for managing CAD data and revisions. Knowledge of common manufacturing processes and design-for-manufacture principles.

Background in mechanical design or related engineering disciplines. Experience working in a contract or consulting capacity on multiple concurrent projects. Qualifications: Associate degree or technical diploma in Drafting, CAD Technology, Mechanical Design, or a related field.

CAD certification in AutoCAD and/or Autodesk Inventor preferred. Relevant vocational training or apprenticeship in engineering drafting or design considered an asset. Equivalent combination of education and hands-on CAD design experience will be considered.

If you are a detail-driven CAD professional who enjoys solving technical design challenges and working closely with engineers on-site, we invite you to apply.
