Job description


We are seeking a Digital Engineering Technology Specialist to support, administer, and improve the design technology environment used by our Power Delivery teams. This role will focus on AutoCAD, MicroStation, and other engineering design applications that support power and energy infrastructure design work.
This Opportunity
This position is business-facing and engineering-focused. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering teams, CAD managers, project teams, and IT partners to maintain reliable design environments, improve user experience, support client and project standards, and reduce manual efforts through automation. This role will require strong collaboration with IT on software deployment, application performance, and other technology dependencies.
Your Impact
CAD Environment Administration
  • Maintain and support AutoCAD profiles, templates, tool palettes, plot styles, and support files, and related configuration standards.
  • Administer MicroStation workspaces, worksets, configuration variables, seed files, levels, and standards.
  • Support integration of client-specific standards and project requirements.
  • Manage deployment, updates, and version control of CAD standards and workspace configurations.
  • Promote consistency and compliance of engineering design environments while respecting established project workspaces and business standards.

Engineering Design Application Support
  • Support design technology tools used across Power Delivery, including Autodesk, Bentley, and utility design applications.
  • Partner with engineering subject matter experts to understand discipline-specific workflows and improve configuration, deployment, and support practices.
  • Help evaluate new tools, updates, and workflows before broader deployment.

Automation, Scripting, and Process Improvement
  • Develop and maintain automation tools, scripts, and utilities to improve engineering productivity.
  • Automate workspace deployment, profile configuration, standards distribution, and update processes.
  • Create scripts for drawing management, data extraction, batch processing, file organization, reporting, and related design support activities.
  • Improve existing automation solutions and identify opportunities for further optimization and reduce repetitive manual work.
  • Document automation tools, reusable scripts, configuration logic, and support procedures.

User Support & Troubleshooting
  • Provide advanced support for AutoCAD, MicroStation, and related design technology users.
  • Troubleshoot profile corruption, workspace issues, configuration conflicts, application performance issues, compatibility problems, and deployment challenges.
  • Investigate application performance and compatibility issues.
  • Work with IT partners to resolve software installation, packaging, and infrastructure-related issues.
  • Serve as a bridge between engineering users and IT by clearly translating business needs, technical issues, and design workflow impacts.
  • Develop technical documentation, knowledge articles, quick-reference guides, and user support materials.

Standards Governance
  • Collaborate with engineering, CAD management, project teams, IT, and business leaders to maintain practical and scalable standards.
  • Lead or support testing and validation of software updates, workspace changes, and configuration improvements before production deployment.
  • Support migration activities associated with application upgrades, client requirements and business acquisitions.
Who you are
Required Qualifications
  • 5 - 10 years supporting AutoCAD, MicroStation, or related engineering design environments in an engineering, architecture, utility, infrastructure, or consulting organization.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering Technology, Design Technology or related field.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
  • Experience administering CAD standards, profiles, workspaces, and configuration management.
  • Experience working with IT partners on software deployment, access, packaging, infrastructure, or application support.
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD configuration, profile management, templates, support paths, plotting, tool palettes, and standards management.
  • Strong knowledge of MicroStation workspaces, worksets, configuration variables, seed files, levels, and standards.
  • Strong scripting experience in one or more of:
    • PowerShell
    • Python
    • VBA
    • AutoLISP
    • Batch scripting
    • C#
  • Experience automating engineering workflows, standards deployment, configuration updates, or design support tasks.
  • Familiarity with source control systems, software deployment methods, documentation practices, and structured change management.
  • Strong collaboration across engineering, CAD, project delivery, IT, and business unit stakeholders.
  • Problem solving and advanced troubleshooting
  • Process automation and continuous improvement
    • Clear communication with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Documentation and knowledge management
  • Attention to detail and respect for established standards, workflows, and project environments.
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively across technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Autodesk and Bentley platforms, including AutoCAD, MicroStation, ProjectWise, and related design tools.
  • Knowledge of software packaging and deployment tools.
  • Understanding of engineering document management systems and cloud-based engineering platforms.
  • Experience creating user documentation, training materials, support guides, or standards documentation.
