Job description

The Sr. Civil CAD Designer is a senior technical role responsible for supporting civil engineering teams across singleโ€‘family residential, commercial site development, municipal infrastructure, and treatment plant projects. This individual will work with engineering staff to prepare detailed construction drawings and exhibits. This role requires advanced proficiency with CAD software with a focus on creating and working with corridors, surfaces and grading, and attention to detail. The Sr. CAD Designer works both independently and collaboratively to deliver complex projects while mentoring junior CAD staff and improving CAD processes.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Completion of technical school with CAD design certificate or associate degree or equivalent experience in Civil Engineering field desired.
  • 7+ years of experience in civil engineering drafting for land development projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, development/design of corridors, and grading surfaces in a development design capacity.
  • Strong understanding and ability to apply grading, drainage, and utility design practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work effectively.
  • Strong organizational, communication and teamwork mindset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team, and mentor junior CAD staff.
Expertise in the Following is Required
  • Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD 3D
  • Preparing schematic, design development, and final (construction) drawings
  • Ability to model for roadway design
  • Ability to perform earthwork calculations through surface comparisons
Experience in the Following is Preferred
  • Experience developing and maintaining CAD standards and templates
  • Prior experience mentoring junior CAD staff
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Identify opportunities to improve CAD workflows, tools, and efficiency.
  • Maintain CAD standards, drawing organization and project file management for project setup and completion.
  • Communicate effectively with drafting, engineering, and construction team members.
  • Prepare schematic, design development, and final (construction) drawings as required.
  • Build and manipulate 3D surface models in AutoCAD, apply corridor modeling for road design, and perform earthwork calculations through surface comparisons.
  • Apply agency regulations to design projects according to requirements and standards and assist junior CAD staff with the same.
  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to prepare grading designs and plans, street plans and profiles (both curb and gutter and open ditch design utilizing corridors), drainage area maps, storm sewer, water, sanitary sewer plans and profiles.
  • Produce construction drawings, exhibits, oneโ€‘line drawings, cost estimates and concept plans for both commercial and residential developments, municipal infrastructure and plant projects.
  • Review and markup existing PDF documents using Bluebeam to track markup completion.
  • Ability to work independently, use experience and judgement with minimal direction while also engaging lead engineer to solve design elements to keep projects on schedule, within agency regulations and constructable.
  • Support multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fastโ€‘paced environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
