Job Title: CAD Engineer I
Reports To: CAD Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Type: Full Time, In Office
Starting Salary: $27.47 hr, 35 hours per week
First Responder/Essential Employee Status: This position is NOT defined as first responder according to the Federal Labor Standards Act and the intentions of the Louisiana Revised Statutes 33:9103 and 33:9124. This position is designated as Essential Personnel and will be required to report for duty during major events and/or declared emergencies of any size.
Job Purpose/Summary of Position
Under the direction of the CAD Manager, the CAD Engineer I will be responsible for performing technical tasks to support the agency's Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, 9-1-1 telephony and network, and administrative office systems. The CAD Engineer I will work with a team of IT specialists to design, set up, and maintain a network of computers, including hardware, software, and system architecture.
Position Responsibilities
  • Installs, configures, and maintains technical equipment under the supervision of the CAD Manager
  • Establishes, configures, tests and maintains operating systems, application software and system management tools
  • Works with public safety agencies to define, configure, deploy, and maintain Motorola Solutions PremierOne Mobile deployments for each agency.
  • Performs maintenance and support of the technical components comprising the agency's computer equipment, CAD system, and network used in the administrative offices
  • Monitors and maintains the integrity of agency's installed systems and infrastructure
  • Investigates and resolves trouble ticket items
  • Plans and implements systems automation as required for better efficiency
  • Acts as a liaison with vendors and keep relevant stakeholders up to date with developments
  • Monitors and maintains the Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) system, and supervises vendors for services and upgrades
  • Performs and regularly maintains system backups
  • Supports the computer needs of all OPCD staff
  • Performs other duties as required
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
  • Associate's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field.
  • One (1) year of experience in information technology, database management, or networking specifically related to configuration and maintenance of an Enterprise Level CAD system or equivalent Public Safety/Law Enforcement/EMS/Fire Enterprise Level system(s).
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
  • Working knowledge of Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in general information technology, database management, and networking experience.
  • Experience in the management and operation support of Motorola PCAD or Motorola PremiereOne CAD System.

Physical Requirements
Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort, which may involve occasional lifting, bending, kneeling, stooping, pushing, or pulling of objects.

Shift
  • This position includes an on-call rotation and requires residency within the Greater New Orleans Metropolitan Area (within 25 miles or a standard 30-minute drive from OPCD).
  • Standard work hours are seven hours per day, Monday through Friday, scheduled between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, as directed by the Technical Operations Manager.
  • Nights or weekends may be required based on circumstances, and shifts may be reassigned at any time based on agency needs.
  • Reporting to work during major events and/or declared disasters is mandatory.
  • This role must be the employee's primary employment. Conflicts due to undisclosed or secondary employment may result in termination and a failure to disclose other employment may result in termination.
