Job Summary:
The Design Manager is responsible for overseeing the quality, accuracy, and efficiency of all drafting activities within the department. This role manages and supports the drafting team while ensuring that all drawings, engineering records, and project documentation meet company and industry standards. The Design Manager coordinates closely with project managers and other departments to ensure drawings are completed accurately and delivered on schedule. The Design Manager coordinates the activities of the engineering firms hired to provide services for precast.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Ensures the quality of the department and reports on its status weekly.
  • Reviews department work, assuring the accuracy and completeness of all drawings, files, engineering records, prints, and tasks of assigned projects.
  • Create and maintain Gainey's drafting standards in accordance with basic industry drafting and engineering standards.
  • Maintain the tracking system for all internal and outsourced CAD and engineering projects.
  • Ensure the detailed drawings are prepared and transferred to Project Managers, Operations, and relevant departments in a clear and timely manner while always maintaining accuracy.
  • Calculate the weights of precast units and always document them on every drawing.
  • Perform Center of Gravity Calculations as needed for lifting design and placement.
  • Understand uses, functions, and rules for the placement of reinforcement in precast concrete structures.
  • Communicates and collaborates with internal departments and outsourced companies to ensure projects, timelines, and customer expectations are met.
  • Manage drafting team, including LMA duties.

Required Skills/ Abilities:
  • Basic level drafting in AutoCAD 2020 or later
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Google Sheets
  • Self-motivated, positive attitude, helpful, and have strong organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to multitask at any given time.

  • Able to read and understand plans and specifications

Physical Demands:
  • Frequently required to sit at a desk, occasionally required to walk and stand.
