You're Role in the Blueprint

DC Goodman is seeking a detail-oriented and skilled CAD Designer to join our industrial fabrication team. The CAD Designer will be responsible for creating accurate fabrication, structural, and mechanical drawings that support manufacturing, installation, and project execution. This role is in office and works closely with project managers, engineers, shop personnel, and field crews to transform concepts and specifications into clear, buildable designs that meet customer requirements and company quality standards.


What You'll Build

  • Create, revise, and maintain detailed 2D and 3D drawings using AutoCAD and Revit
  • Develop fabrication, assembly, and installation drawings for industrial and commercial projects
  • Interpret engineering specifications, customer requirements, sketches, and field measurements to produce accurate drawings
  • Generate bills of materials, material take-offs, and drawing packages for production and procurement
  • Develop and maintain 3D models for structural steel, mechanical systems, equipment layouts, and fabrication assemblies
  • Coordinate designs with engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams to ensure constructability and manufacturability
  • Incorporate design revisions, field changes, and customer feedback into project models and drawings
  • Assist in clash detection and design coordination to minimize fabrication and installation issues
  • Collaborate with shop supervisors and production personnel to ensure drawings accurately reflect fabrication requirements
  • Provide technical drawing support during manufacturing and installation activities and respond to requests for revisions and clarification throughout project execution
  • Assist with field verification and as-built documentation when required
  • Maintain organized project files, drawing revisions, and documentation in accordance with company standards; ensure proper version control and distribution of approved drawings
  • Archive completed project files and maintain historical records for future reference
  • Review drawings for dimensional accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project specifications
  • Verify that drawings align with fabrication capabilities, industry standards, and safety requirements
  • Identify and resolve design conflicts before drawings are released to production


Your Foundation

  • Associate degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, CAD Technology, or a related field — or equivalent work experience
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD required
  • Experience creating detailed fabrication, structural, or mechanical drawings
  • Strong understanding of blueprint reading, dimensions, tolerances, and fabrication processes
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Experience with Revit and BIM modeling preferred
  • Background in industrial fabrication, structural steel, mechanical systems, or construction-related industries preferred
  • Knowledge of welding, steel fabrication, piping systems, or industrial equipment layouts a plus
  • Familiarity with material take-offs and bill of materials development a plus
  • Ability to occasionally visit fabrication facilities and project sites, perform field measurements, and work in both office and industrial shop environments
