Job description

Location: Farmington Hills, MI Salary: $38.00 USD Hourly - $40.00 USD Hourly Description: Role Summary:
CAD Designer III responsible for designing and modifying 3D parts and assemblies in an automotive engineering environment. Role supports engineering team with design development, feasibility studies, interference resolution, and manufacturability assessments. Position requires independent judgment in design decisions and strong collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure performance, cost, quality, and production requirements are met.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and modify 3D CAD parts and assemblies based on engineering requirements
  • Perform design investigations, feasibility studies, and engineering analyses
  • Apply and interpret GD&T in 2D drawings and 3D CAD models
  • Conduct interference and clearance checks in assembly environments
  • Resolve design issues related to fit, mating, and assembly integration
  • Perform tolerance stack-ups based on engineering inputs
  • Evaluate manufacturability, tooling impacts, cost, and performance tradeoffs
  • Export CAD data (STEP, IGES, packaging formats, etc.)
  • Manage CAD data in PLM systems and maintain design integrity
  • Review peer designs and provide technical support/training as needed
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to resolve design issues and implement improvements
  • Ensure compliance with EHS policies and procedures
Required Experience & Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 1-2 years vocational training or Associate's degree preferred
  • 5-8 years CAD design experience in engineering environment
  • Strong 3D CAD modeling experience in production setting
  • Experience with NX and/or CATIA V5/V6
  • Strong understanding and application of GD&T
  • Experience with assembly-level design, interference resolution, and tolerance stack-ups
  • Experience with CAD data management systems (Teamcenter preferred)
  • Strong communication, organizational, and multi-project coordination skills
Preferred Skills:
  • Automotive industry experience (strong preference)
  • HVAC system knowledge (not required)
  • Experience with manufacturability and tooling considerations
  • Prior experience mentoring or reviewing other designers
  • Experience with CAD data exports and PLM workflows
Technical Environment:
  • 3D CAD: NX, CATIA V5/V6
  • PLM: Teamcenter (preferred)
  • CAD Outputs: STEP, IGES, packaged CAD formats
  • Engineering focus: automotive assemblies, interference resolution, tolerance analysis
