DESCRIPTION
Senior Design Engineers apply engineering theory and real-world experience to design industrial ergonomic systems and material handling equipment. They lead modeling and detailing tasks, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, specifications, and quality requirements. This role performs advanced design and FEA analysis on high-complexity systems while translating customer requirements into engineered solutions. The Senior Design Engineer manages projects from concept through installation and communicates technical solutions clearly to both internal and external stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Complete 3D designs and assemblies for industrial tooling and automated systems.
  • Analyze as-built design information and prepare design update plans.
  • Create field sketches, layouts, and detailed drawings in accordance with customer and company standards.
  • Perform FEA and advanced design analysis to validate structural integrity and functionality.
  • Work directly with customers on design concepts, feasibility assessments, and improvement opportunities.
  • Lead discussions around manufacturability, ergonomics, and design efficiency.
  • Manage revisions and support customer satisfaction through proactive communication and problem resolution.
  • Lead creation and approval of technical specifications, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Manage the technical execution of projects from concept through completion.
  • Oversee complete project setup, documentation, and issue resolution.
  • Ensure adherence to engineering processes and documentation standards for all assigned projects.
  • Lead timely responses for customers, delegating tasks and ensuring follow-through.
  • Refine technical communications for clarity and precision.
  • Mentor teammates and lead cross-functional collaboration between design, manufacturing, and project teams.
  • Deliver technical presentations and lead discussions with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Inspire and support the team during complex or high-pressure projects, maintaining engagement and morale.
  • Set the example for professional conduct, accountability, and technical excellence.
  • Serve as a safety ambassador within the department and across the site.
  • Provide technical guidance and project direction to junior engineers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in tooling design/automation design, including FEA.
  • Technically proficient with 3D CAD Modeling programs
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical principles, understanding of 3D models, layout drawings and engineering specifications
  • Ability to apply engineering theories to design industrial ergonomic systems and automated tooling.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines and with customers.
  • Capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills; able to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technologies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field preferred.
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant engineering experience in tooling, automation, or system design preferred.
