Description

 This position will be on-call status (19 hours per week or less). The CAD Designer is responsible for developing sets of engineering design drawings and complex figures for a variety of projects with limited iterations. This position works closely with Geotechnical,

Environmental, and Civil Engineers, scientists, and project managers to ensure designs conform to applicable industry and quality standards, budgetary requirements, and internal or client CAD standards. The CAD Designer is also responsible for mentoring CAD technicians, assisting with QA/QC of CAD deliverables, and delegating work to CAD staff. This is an intermediate, junior-level CAD position.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Produces basic-to-advanced construction plan sets and complex figure deliverables. Deliverables may include boring and sample location maps, cross sections, and mapping of analytical data for a variety of geotechnical, transportation, environmental, trenchless designs, over-levee pipeline designs, water resource, and/or general Civil engineering designs.
  • Assists project team members with basic design decisions from detailed design criteria provided by engineers.
  • Produces complex construction drawings under limited supervision of the engineer and/or Senior CAD Designer.
  • Leads CAD production for design packages and delegates work to other CAD team members as needed.
  • Produces advanced earthwork volume calculations for engineering estimates and in-construction support.
  • Processes data sets such as site surveys for creation of topographic surfaces and basemaps for use in engineering designs and calculations.
  • Assists in the production of visualization products such as 3D renderings, 3D PDFs, and/or 3D printing.
  • Provides level of effort estimates of assigned work to project managers for figures and construction drawings under the supervision of Senior CAD Designers and/or CAD Managers.
  • Ensures that all deliverables are completed as estimated and are submitted to project managers or appropriate staff by the established deadline and budget while remaining consistent with internal and/or client standards.
  • Provides QA/QC support for various CAD deliverables on a regular basis. Mentors junior CAD staff.
  • Maintains department filing system standards.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Technical or Associate's degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience producing basic-to-advanced engineering design drawings.
  • Advanced working knowledge of CAD software applications such as AutoCAD/Civil 3D and/or Microstation/Inroads required.
  • Experience with 3D modeling techniques such as site grading and/or corridor modeling preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with use of GIS tools and software such as ArcGIS and/or Global Mapper preferred.
  • Ability to follow written, verbal or diagrammatic instructions and perform intermediate engineering calculations.
  • Professional-level verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to consistently meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Valid driver's license.


Physical Requirements / Work Environment:

  • Normal office environment with moderate noise levels, occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs., prolonged sitting and regular walking, bending, standing and reaching.
  • Ability to perform consistent work on a PC with prolonged view of a monitor/screen.
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally as needed.


Our best estimate of the salary range for this position, located in Tacoma, WA is $34.13 - $51.44. Compensation offered will be based on a variety of individual factors, including education and experience, as well as internal equity. GeoEngineers' salary ranges are reviewed and updated each year and employees are eligible for pay increases based on individual performance. As part of our competitive total rewards package, employees in this role may also be eligible for our annual year-end bonus offering, subject to program eligibility requirements.
