Job description

Are we the road to your future?

We are currently searching for a Junior level and Senior level CAD Technician to support our Southwest Region located in Austin, Houston, McKinney, Rockwall, Round Rock, San Antonio, or Tyler, TX.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for coordination and oversight of geometric design projects.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Provide assistance to engineers using OpenRoads Designer to create roadway plan sets and perform minor design work on roadway projects
  • Contribute to project production sheets by adding dimensions and laying out plans, title and detail sheets on production sets of plans
  • Prepare minor mathematical calculations and quantity calculations for roadway/bridge projects
  • Work with engineers to develop 3D models using both OpenRoads Designer
  • Research applicable design codes and guidelines to ensure design compliance
  • Research design options and documents findings
  • Coordinates assignments with project team and supervisor
  • Perform quality control reviews of design plans and calculations
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Be a team player and assist other groups as needed

What you need to have:

  • Associate degree from a technical or four-year school
  • Degree in Computer Aided Drafting or similar field is preferred
  • 3-15 years of prior experience with roadway drafting
  • Under 3 years experience will be evaluated if applicant has a degree in Computer Aided Drafting or similar field
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
  • Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)

Bonus points if you have:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience in OpenRoads Designer
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work within a team environment
