Job Summary

The Design Engineer is responsible for turning ideas for products into functional prototypes and developing them into production parts using efficient and affordable processes. They are also responsible for continuously updating and improving designs for better manufacturability, cost, and function. Their duties include preparing design briefs that serve a particular purpose, researching possible production methods and use engineering software to refine and develop their product, reviewing feedback from manufacturing and production teams to make improvements to their designs and working with supply chain to help schedule change implementation and cost updates.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Communicate designs effectively using SolidWorks CAD software including 3D models, 2D drawings, assembly prints and Bills of Materials.
• Conduct critical peer review of designs to develop the best possible product designs.
• Work with sourcing/purchasing to ensure suppliers are meeting design specifications & adjust designs based on manufacturability.
• Develop detailed drawings & have a very good understanding of the Bill of Materials to ensure products are being made and purchased to quality standards consistently.
• Work with manufacturing team to ensure efficient manufacturability and develop engineering assembly instructions that can be translated into work instructions by the manufacturing team.
• Conduct rigorous usability tests and modifies the product based on the test results.
• Create multiple iterations of design prototypes using computer-aided design tools.
• Evaluate design solutions against industry standards and regulations.

• Document the design process and present progress reports to all relevant stakeholders.
• Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Education

3+ years' experience designing production products.

Extensive knowledge of SolidWorks 3D CAD software.

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or industrial Design. Project development and leadership skills are essential.

Ability to work with various departments to facilitate the orderly execution of a proposed project plan.

Extensive knowledge and experience working with various operating systems.

Professional work experience reviewing and analyzing prototypes and product modifications.

Work is performed in a manufacturing environment where the noise level is usually moderate to high.
Work may require some weekend and evening work. No travel is expected. No remote work available currently.
