You will focus on office-based survey production, including boundary and control calculations, CAD LiDAR processing and extraction, field data processing, and construction layout calculations. Working closely with the Survey CAD leadership team, you will produce high-quality survey drawings and construction documents, primarily for DOT-related projects, while also contributing to municipal work. The role provides ongoing training, exposure to industry-standard software, and a collaborative environment with strong work-life balance and excellent benefits. Responsibilities
  • Perform boundary and control calculations to support survey and construction layout activities.
  • Process and extract LiDAR data using CAD tools to create accurate survey deliverables.
  • Process field survey data and integrate it into CAD platforms for drafting and design support.
  • Prepare and update construction layout calculations for various infrastructure projects.
  • Assist the Survey CAD leadership team with data processing, drafting, and preparation of construction drawings.
  • Work primarily on DOT-related survey CAD projects while also assisting on municipal survey projects as needed.
  • Use AutoCAD daily to produce and revise survey drawings and related documentation.
  • Use MicroStation Bentley software for DOT survey CAD work, with training provided as needed.
  • Use Civil 3D for survey CAD work on non-DOT projects, supporting design and documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineers, surveyors, and other team members to ensure accurate and timely completion of project deliverables.
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation for survey data, calculations, and drawings.
  • Adhere to project standards, CAD drafting conventions, and quality control procedures.
  • Support multiple concurrent projects in the Metro Detroit area, managing time effectively to meet deadlines.
Essential Skills
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Survey CAD Technician or Drafter.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD for survey drafting and production.
  • Working knowledge of a 3D CAD package, ideally MicroStation and/or Civil 3D.
  • Ability to perform survey-related calculations, including boundary and control computations.
  • Ability to process field survey data and prepare accurate CAD drawings.
  • Valid driver's license.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working on DOT projects, particularly with DOT survey standards and workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with MicroStation Bentley CAD software.
  • Hands-on experience with Civil 3D for survey and design work.
  • 3 or more years of experience in a survey CAD technician or related role.
  • Licensed Surveyor or the ability and interest to obtain licensure.
  • An Associate or Bachelor's degree or higher in Surveying, Geomatics, Land Surveying, or Surveying Engineering.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality drawings.
  • Self-driven mindset with a desire to learn, grow, and tackle new challenges.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented, forward-thinking environment.
