Summary
As a Computer Aided Design (CAD) Drafter at Oncor, you will be accountable for preparing complex drawings for electrical, mechanical, civil or structural engineering or construction projects, from preliminary layouts, notes, diagrams, verbal instructions and/or other data. The CAD Drafter also supports the Transmission Engineering Services Department objectives of meeting the needs of a diverse clientele group.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
For all:
Directly or through others, the incumbent will:
  • Provide timely creation of engineering drawings required to implement engineering designs.
  • Use Computer Aided Design & Drafting (CADD) tools to automate the drawing creation process.
  • Prepare electrical schematic and wiring diagrams and electrical physical drawings.
  • Prepare structural plans, details and shop drawings as needed to support structural design.
  • Prepare mechanical or electromechanical equipment drawings with geometric dimensioning as defined by American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
  • Convert existing drawings to electronic format by efficient use of scanning and hybrid raster/vector technology.
  • Update engineering drawings of record as defined by project, construction, or engineers to reflect as-built status.
  • Support the drawing and drawing project control functions as needed.
  • Work with plan and profile drawings, relief maps, and other civil drawings.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.
  • Have thorough knowledge of and follow Safety practices and policies.
  • Have thorough knowledge of and follow Oncor's Code of Conduct.
  • Effectively interface with Oncor employees on a project basis.
  • Performs all essential aspects and functions of the job as well as any other specific job requirements.

In addition to the above for CAD Drafter II:
  • Develop plan and profile drawings, relief maps, and other civil drawings using engineer notes or raw survey data.
  • Develop or update CADD cell libraries, menus, and reference files as needed to improve drawing creation efficiency.
  • Complete projects with minimum supervision.
  • Develop drawings from instructions and specifications.
  • Assist Engineer in developing detailed part and assembly drawings.
  • Assist Drafter and Senior Drafter in projects as needed.

In addition to all the above for CAD Drafter Sr:
  • Assist Engineer in creating miscellaneous exhibits using various software tools.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.
  • Mapping - Maintain existing and create new as required.
  • Perform calculations as required (Grading-Slop, Cut, & Fill; Foundation-Concrete Volume, Rebar Length & Weight; Transmission Line Sag & Tension; etc.).
  • Helps mentor entry level CAD Drafters.
  • Coordinates large projects as required.

For CAD Drafter I:

For CAD Drafter II and CAD Drafter Sr:
  • Exhibit good communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Exhibit expertise and thorough understanding of Transmission Engineering and Drafting Procedures.

Education
For all:
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent is required.

For CAD Drafter I:
  • Applicants with an Associate Degree in CADD operations or 1-2 years' experience in drafting with operating knowledge of hybrid vector/raster CADD software and scanning tools are encouraged to apply.

For CAD Drafter II and CAD Drafter Sr:
  • Applicants with an Associate's Degree in CADD operations are encouraged to apply.

Experience
For CAD Drafter I:
  • Applicants with experience in Transmission related drafting are encouraged to apply.

For CAD Drafter II:
  • 2 years' experience using CADD software applications is required.
  • Applicants with 2 years' experience using Bentley Microstation software are encouraged to apply.
  • Applicants with transmission related drafting experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Applicants with knowledge of the Transmission system and how it works are encouraged to apply.

In addition to the above, for CAD Drafter Sr:
  • 5 years' experience using CADD software applications required.
  • Applicants with 5 years' experience using Bentley Microstation software are encouraged to apply.
