Job Title: Sheet Metal Fabricator / CAD/CAM Programmer

Job Description

This role combines hands-on sheet metal fabrication with CAD/CAM programming to review and edit programs, optimize nesting and layouts, and maximize product output. You will program, set up, and operate sheet metal equipment while translating design concepts into accurate, reliable sheet metal structures within specified dimensions. The position offers the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute in a fun, collaborative, and fast-growing manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Review and edit CAD/CAM programs to maximize product yield and minimize material waste.
  • Perform nesting and layout of sheet metal parts to ensure efficient use of materials and machine time.
  • Set up and operate sheet metal fabrication equipment, including press brakes and other related machinery.
  • Program, set up, and operate equipment associated with sheet metal fabrication, using CAD/CAM tools and related software.
  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to produce accurate sheet metal components.
  • Use measuring tools and tape measures to verify dimensions and ensure parts meet specified tolerances.
  • Apply strong math skills to calculate dimensions, layouts, and material requirements.
  • Assemble HVAC sheet metal and other sheet metal components according to design requirements.
  • Collaborate with team members in the warehouse and assembly areas to meet production goals and maintain quality standards.
  • Maintain organized work areas and manage multiple tasks with attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Troubleshoot and adjust programs or setups as needed to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and consistent, reliable execution of daily tasks.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts and contribute ideas to enhance processes and productivity.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of steel toe boots and safe operation of machines and tools.

Essential Skills

  • At least 4+ years of CAD/CAM programming experience, with a focus on nesting and layout for sheet metal applications.
  • At least 4+ years of experience setting up and operating sheet metal fabrication equipment, including press brakes.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and CAD/CAM programming tools.
  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication, including HVAC sheet metal and sheet metal assembly.
  • Ability to think in terms of sheet metal design and create complex, reliable sheet metal structures that fit within specified dimensions.
  • Technical aptitude with the ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and measuring tools.
  • Strong math skills applied to layout, dimensioning, and fabrication work.
  • Ability to accurately use tape measures and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Detail-oriented approach with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and maintain accuracy.
  • Motivated mindset with a strong desire to learn and grow within the organization.
  • Ability to work effectively in a small team environment and contribute to a positive workplace culture.
  • Consistently professional attitude and reliability in daily work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Mastercam or similar CAD/CAM software.
  • Experience in manufacturing environments similar to HVAC or data center-related industries is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to adapt to different types of CAD/CAM systems and equipment as needed.
  • Comfort working in both programming and hands-on fabrication roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to repeatedly execute a crisp high-five, reflecting a fun and collaborative attitude.
  • Openness to feedback and willingness to participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

Work Environment

The standard shift runs from 5:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Friday, with overtime currently available. The dress code is casual, with steel toe boots required for safety. Employees work with modern sheet metal fabrication equipment and CAD/CAM tools in a clean, organized, and supportive production setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Maple Grove, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $38.00/hr.
