Job description

Lexicon offers a unique combination of capabilities. Our services include construction management, fabrication, erection, mechanical installation, and plant maintenance for heavy industrial, commercial, and roadway projects, as well as a full spectrum of golf course construction and management services.

Position Summary

The CAD Drafter converts engineering/architectural sketches into precise 2D or 3D technical drawings and blueprints using software like AutoCAD, or Tekla. They create detailed layouts, verify design accuracy, follow building codes, and collaborate with teams to prepare construction or manufacturing documentation. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create precise, technical drawings for structural steel and steel plate fabrication projects.
  • Revise/modify existing drawings based on engineering changes, client feedback, or site inspection notes.
  • Interpret engineering design drawings and translate them to shop capabilities.
  • Ensure all designs adhere to industry standards, technical specifications, and safety regulations.
  • Work with engineers, architects, and designers to interpret data and finalize layouts.
  • Prepare, update, and manage project files, bill of materials, and reports. 
  • Ability to work overtime and regular, punctual attendance.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of 2-3 years steel detailing experience preferred. Extensive experience in AutoCAD, TEKLA, or other detailing software. Understanding of engineering principles, construction methods, or manufacturing techniques. Must have ability to read, understand, and interpret detailed shop drawings and blueprints.  Must have good oral/written communication skills.  Ability to compute, and understand, technical, calculations, including, angles, weights, and measurements. Exceptional attention to detail for ensuring, accuracy, and quality control.

Physical Demands

Must be able to sit and work directly on a computer for extended periods of time.  Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.  Required to walk in the structural steel fabrication shop for inventory and to verify materials.  Some overtime and weekend work may be required. All of the physical demands listed are essential functions.
